Thank you to the entire Cafeteria TEAM for the delicious Harvest Feast!

On Thursday, November 17, the students and staff were treated to an amazing feast of turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, squash, green beans, cranberry, rolls, and apple crisp! It was incredibly delicious!

The students were so sweet with many saying thank you and given the team hugs!

Everyone at Sheffield wants you to know how grateful we were for the extra time you took to prepare such a special event for us! Thank you! We appreciate all you do everyday!

Turkey Trot

Please make sure you let us know by TODAY if you want to run or volunteer for the Turkey Trot. Thank you!

_________________________________________________________________________________________

On Wednesday November 23, 2022 Hillcrest and Sheffield will hold their 1st Turkey Trot. Students will be running or walking on a marked route between the two school campuses. The route will start and finish in the field between the two schools.

All students will participate in grade specific ways. Grades 2-5 will run/walk the longer route, the PreK-1 will have a shorter route to run/walk. Students in grades preK-1 are able to run the longer route with a parent/guardian.

As you can imagine, many volunteers are necessary to help this day run smoothly. Please consider volunteering! If you are willing to volunteer please fill out and return the volunteer sheet. The route will be marked with cones, staff and volunteers.

All school rules are in effect.

We LOVE math!

My amazing fifth graders worked collaboratively to determine the volume of assorted real world rectangular prisms (boxes 🙂). By engaging in this project, they demonstrated that they could understand the concept of volume through the practical application of the formula (V= l x w x h). They worked with a partner to measure the boxes in order to find their dimensions and they performed the calculations necessary to determine the correct answers. Everyone worked hard, had fun and increased their understanding of volume as it pertains to the real world. I hope they enjoyed the activity as much as Ms. Charboneau and I did! They all did a great job! ~Ms. Walther

Dismissal Changes

Please notify the main office with any changes to your student's dismissal plans no later than 2:30 pm. This helps us make sure that every student gets to the correct dismissal location. Thank you!

Appropriate Clothing for the Weather

A reminder that all Sheffield students go out to recess every day!

The temperatures are dropping, so make sure they have a coat, hat, and gloves/mittens daily.

Once it snows, please also send snow pants and water-resistant boots.
Studies show that recess improves memory, attention, and concentration and helps them stay on-task in the classroom. We make every attempt to get them outside daily for at least 30 minutes!

Clothing for our Health Office

The Health Office is looking for gently used winter clothing

Children sizes 4/6-14/16

  • Long pants/sweatpants
  • Sweatshirts/hoodies
  • Winter coats and snow pants

The cold weather has arrived and we could use some warm clothing to have available for student use. Clothing that is free of stains, holes or extra wear and tear will be accepted.

Gill-Montague Education Fund (GMEF)

The Gill-Montague Education Fund is a non-profit organization established in 1996 by the parents and citizens of the towns of Gill and Montague. Its goals are to provide programs and resources for the schools that will enrich the educational opportunities available to students, and to encourage advocacy for public education. The organization went dormant for a few years, when state and federal funding was adequate. In 2004, The GMEF Board of Directors were inspired to bring enrichment to their communities and their students by hosting an Annual Fundraising Gala.

Our Annual Gala completes a ‘full circle’ - We receive financial support from Underwriters, Corporate Sponsors, and Major Advertisers who help defray the cost of the Gala. The General Advertising, Tier-giving, In-Kind Contributions and Ticket Sales sustain the enrichment grants.

Our Annual Gala enriches our communities with quality entertainment within our beautiful theater. And finally, this collaborative effort concludes with the awarding of grants for students throughout the district “Supporting Excellence & Innovation in Our Schools”.

To date, we have awarded nearly $126,840 in grants. In addition, we award 3 ($250) scholarships annually and roses for our graduates.

You can visit our website for more details about the Galas, Enrichment Grants, etc. www.thegmef.org

Periodically throughout the year, I will send short articles about the GMEF and/or Annual Gala. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for your support,

Joyce

2023 GMEF Annual Gala

“Faithfully”

A Salute to Eagles & Journey

Returning in April 2023 after a 4 year hiatus generates mixed emotions – excitement, hope, and uncertainty – to name just a few. The impact of the pandemic on K–12 student learning was significant.

Now that schools have reopened, there is a challenge not only to recover unfinished learning but also reimagine education systems for the long term. Our goal is to support these efforts with enrichment grants.

On Saturday, April 29, 2023@ 7:00pm “Faithfully” performing “A Salute to Eagles & Journey”. Faithfully will re-create the music of The Eagles & Journey with hits like Tequila Sunrise, Desperado, Open Arms, Don’t Stop Believin’ and many more.

Advance tickets are $30. They are available on the GMEF website

Our collaborative effort with Underwriters, Corporate Sponsors, Advertisers, and Tier-givers have resulted not only in quality entertainment for our communities but also have made available more than $126,840 in student enrichment grants.
