THIRD GRADE MITTEN DONATION
Third graders are helping hands stay warm this winter! After reading the book, The Mitten Tree, by Candace Christiansen, the third graders raised money by helping at home, doing chores for their families, for a project called Helping Hands Stay Warm. The money they raised totaled over $500.00!
Each class graphed the chores that were done, made predictions about how many mittens, gloves, scarves, and hats their money could buy, and wrote about the project. Many of the students and their families met Mrs. Regh and Mrs. Calvanese after school, at 5 Below and Dollar Tree, and shopped for the mittens. They needed to skip count as they put each item into their group's shopping cart. The next day at school, they marveled at the amount of hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, and even warm socks that they were able to buy!
The third graders then donated the giant box of items to the Hudson Food Pantry. Mr. Maule, Adelyn's dad and a volunteer at the food pantry, came to talk to the students and taught them all about how the food pantry works, and how it helps people. The third graders enjoyed learning about it, and were all so happy to be helping hands stay warm this winter!
BIG JOE THE STORYTELLER
Last year, the students enjoyed Big Joe the Storyteller so much that we brought him back again this yearas the school's reward for hitting our fundraising goal at during the Fun Run. There were a lot of great laughs during his performance!
NONFICTION IN MRS. CALVANESE'S CLASS
Mrs. Calvanese's class has just completed work on their nonfiction unit. It began in October when they visited the Plinoth Patuxet Museum. After the field trip, they began to read books about the Wompanoags and the Pilgrims. In writing, they learned all about the way to write nonfiction. Them they wrote books about the Pilgrims and Wompanoags. The books all had to have a Title, Introduction, Table of Contents, Meet the Author, and content on foods, clothing, housing, learning, games, activities, and hard times for bothe the Pilgrims and Wompanoags. After they finshed, Mrs. Murphy's class joined them and her students found a buddy and were read a book by the author. At the end of their time together, they all gathered to discuss what they all had learned.
FOOD DRIVE
Celebrate the Holidays with the
Mulready Holiday Food Pantry Drive
The generosity of the Mulready ohana continues. Our goal of 200 items for the Food Pantry was crushed! The items provided are exactly what the Pantry said was need. Thank you to Mr. GLines and his class for organizing it and loading the food in Mr. Bowen's truck. In March, as part of their community service project, the Kindergarten will be sponsoring another food drive.
