Manitou Springs Middle School
September 7th, 2023
Dear Families,
It has been a great week of teaching and learning at Manitou Springs Middle School. Our students are working hard and learning so much!
We have an exciting opportunity to be involved at the middle school through the School Accountability Committee (SAC). This committee provides parents, students, community members, and staff an opportunity to learn about the school and provide important feedback to be used for school improvement planning.
SAC is open to all parents/guardians and their students. Our first SAC meeting is Monday, October 9th, from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at Manitou Springs Middle School. We will meet 4 times this year from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Feel free to attend some or all of the meetings:
Monday, October 9th
Monday, December 4th
Monday, February 5th
Monday, April 8th
Please email me if you would like to learn more, or if you plan to attend on Monday, 9th. I look forward to hearing from you!
Sincerely,
Mr. Cady, Principal

Spirit Week is coming!
Homework got you stumped?
This week PAC had our first meeting of the school year. We are thrilled to have approved Mini Grants for the Middle School including $250 for the 6th Grade Planetarium Show, and $250 for MSMS Honor Roll Celebrations.
Have you checked out our new Spirit Wear store yet? There are lots of designs and many items to pick from. Now through Sept 21 they are running a 30% off back to school sale, and PAC gets 10% of all proceeds.
NEW - MSSD14 Excused Absence Policy
Dear Families and Students,
The staff in Manitou Springs School District are excited to welcome you to a new school year filled with opportunities to learn and engage!
In the spring of 2023, the Manitou Springs Board of Education passed a new policy regarding excused absences. This policy will change how the district honors parental excusals.
We know that students who attend school do better academically and emotionally, and we will continue to support you in your student’s success. We also want to support our staff in reducing the load that chronic absences add to their plates. Please see your student’s handbook for further information.
Getting into the habit of daily attendance is more important than ever. It helps to:
- Reduce stress!
- Make it easier to connect with friends and teachers.
- Support learning.
Reaching you for support in attendance is more important than ever. It helps to:
- Make sure to call every time your child is absent or tardy.
- Please be sure we have your correct: address, phone number and email.
We are working to make our school environment a place where everyone can be safe, healthy, and learning. We will do our best to listen and partner with you so that our children have a successful year. Do not hesitate to reach out to me with questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Kolleen Johnson
