Comet Connection

December Edition

Principal's Message

Greetings Britt Families,

December is always a fun month. Anticipation is in the air, especially as we think about our winter break. Sleeping in, enjoying family, and eating great food make breaks memorable. I hope yours is very special.

Thank you to all the parents who came to our Virtual Parent Involvement Day. Our students were excited to see you in their classrooms. I hope you enjoyed your time seeing what our students and staff do every day.

I mentioned partnering with Children's Health Care of Atlanta on their Strong 4 Life campaign in the last newsletter. Students will receive water bottles and notebooks to help them practice the healthy habits of Eat Smart-Drink Water and Emotions are Real-Express How You Feel. These items will help us keep students hydrated and ready to learn.

As we close out this semester, I want to remind you that GCPS has updated its mask mandate. Requirements for wearing a mask at school will change based on community transmission of the COVID virus. Starting January 3, 2022, GCPS will communicate via SchoolMessenger and on the district website mask guidance based on community transmission. Masks will still be required on the bus due to federal mandates.

GCPS is phasing in a preferred name category in Synergy, our student information system. This new category will allow you to enter the name you want your child to be called, and our staff will soon see that name rather than the legal first name. If you want your child to be called a name other than the legal first name, please go to ParentVUE in the GCPS Parent Portal to provide that name. We will verify the name and make the change.

We will be celebrating the end of the semester in our classrooms. Please watch for communication from your child's teachers about how you can help makes these celebrations extra special.

Thank you so much for supporting Britt Elementary as we finish this semester strong.

Best regards,

Melissa Madsen

Can Food Drive for the 6th Annual Festival of Trees

The Britt Elementary 5th Grade students will be participating in the 6th Annual Snellville Festival of Trees. The students have been creating and designing ornaments to decorate our tree.

All of Britt Elementary students will participate in a school-wide can food drive. The can foods and non-perishable items will be collected and placed around our tree, November 22, 2021, through December 17, 2021. Students can also donate a new toy to Toys for Tots.

The number of cans collected will help our tree win the Festival of Trees. We hope that all students and parents will join us in our efforts to provide joy and celebrate the true meaning of the season. Donations will go to the Southeast Gwinnett Co-op.

We will weigh the cans collected from each class. The class that collects the most pounds of cans will win a pizza party.
