This Week at Gateway

Gateway Regional Community Newsletter-March 22, 2021

Principal's Message

Based on the results of our Parent/family survey, and pending Board of Education approval, the district will offer in-person instruction four days a week, along with a virtual option, beginning on April 8, 2021. The school day will continue to run from 7:45am to 12:17pm. Afternoons will be used for office hours and extra help. We appreciate everyone’s insight and support as we work to safely increase the time students receive in-person instruction.

Congratulations to the cast of our fall play, The Brothers Grim Spectaculathon! The cast and crew did a great job navigating the many challenges to get the show produced. A special thank you to Mrs. Halpin, Ava Hojnowski (student director), and Mr. Pridy for all of their efforts to see the project through.

In-Person Education

Gateway is currently reviewing the attendance for all students. Students who are identified as Cohort A, B, or D are expected to be present in the building on their designated days. This helps to ensure accuracy when contract tracing, be aware of when students are present in the event of an emergency, as well as better assist teachers in their efforts to provide additional support of instruction. If a student is not feeling well on occasion or needs to quarantine, it is important to have the student remotely log in to their classes while the parent notifies the Attendance Office. Students who are not able to attend in-person instruction on a consistent basis should change their cohort to C or full virtual instruction. Parents/Guardians should contact Mrs. Carol O'Connell to facilitate that change.

COVID-19 Guidelines

  1. Any individual with COVID-19 symptoms should stay home and contact their healthcare provider. These symptoms are listed on the daily health screening you complete
  2. If someone in your household is sick or being tested for COVID-19 due to illness, students should stay home until the test result is received.
  3. Siblings of a student who has symptoms and meets criteria should be excluded from school until the symptomatic individual receives a negative test result.

I know all of this can be confusing, so if you are in doubt or need help, please reach out directly to Mrs. Alter, our school nurse or the main office. We appreciate your cooperation.

The Baldosaro Comfort Closet Remains Open!

The Comfort Closet is full with generous donations from Gateway families. The Closet is stocked with clothes, toiletries, coats, shoes, school supplies and many other items to be given at NO CHARGE. It is the goal of the Closet to lessen worries for our Gateway students about daily needs so that they can focus on learning. The Closet is easy to access, before and after school, by appointment or items can be delivered to your home. For an appointment or to arrange delivery contact (cnorton@gatewayhs.com).

Seniors Helping Seniors

The Gateway High School seniors would like to help the community seniors. Senior citizens in the sending districts of Woodbury Heights, Wenonah, National Park, and Westville can contact the program coordinator and discuss specific jobs they have at their homes that a group of students could help with. The coordinator will then get a group of students from the senior class

For example, Mr. and Mrs. Smith from Woodbury Heights need their patio furniture moved into their garage for the winter. They can call or email the school and the coordinator will return their call and make arrangements. The coordinator will assemble a group of students and make arrangements for transportation to the Smiths' home and accompany the seniors.

This program is designed for the students to give back to the community and the senior citizens to get help with projects that may be difficult for them to handle without assistance. Everything will be done with consideration to COVID-19 protocols. Please feel free to share information about the Seniors Helping Seniors initiative with those in the community that benefit from the program.

To participate or with any questions or comments please reach out to Cindy Norton at Gateway (cnorton@gatewayhs.com).
