Creating Video Games in 2nd Grade
Our 2nd grade Cubs have been working hard to show what they know about Natural Resources through the creation of video games using Bloxels. In these creative video games they designed, the students were challenged to find man-made or natural resources as they progressed through the game and fought off "enemies". Such an engaging way to learn!

CAMPUS UPDATES
STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK IS COMING SOON!
They will be sending home five printed notecards with each student this week. Please encourage your child to write an appreciation note to their teacher or other Cannon staff throughout the week of May 6th-10th! They can bring them all on one day OR they can choose to acknowledge a different staff member each day of that week. Either way, student notes of appreciation, are absolutely one of the FAVORITE ways teachers & staff like to be recognized!
PTA also wants all of our Cannon parents to check out this LIST OF STAFF FAVORITES, in case you would like to gift a "favorite" item for any of our amazing Cannon Staff during the week of May 6-10. These items include but are not limited to favorite snacks, drinks, favorite retailer or restaurants, hobbies and flowers.
Check out the itinerary below of the awesome events our PTA has planned for this special week!
5th GRADE READING & MATH STAAR RESULTS THIS WEEK
The results of the 5th grade reading and math STAAR tests will be available this week. Please see the information below about how to access this information online. As a reminder, due to the state's Student Success Initiative, any 5th grade student who did not pass one or both sections of the STAAR will participate in the 2nd testing administration in May. Parents will be notified this week by teachers if their students passed or will need to re-test.
Results for April Grades 5 and 8 Reading and Math STAAR will be posted at www.texasassessment.com in the FOR FAMILIES section in the STUDENT PORTAL this week. Parents will need their student's unique access code to retrieve the scores. This code is located in SKYWARD or on any previous STAAR Report Card at the bottom of the page. Parents can also go to www.texasassessment.com and retrieve the unique access code with their student's first name, social security number, and date of birth.
The performance labels and descriptors are as follows:
Masters Grade Level: Students at this level have exceeded the assessment requirements and TEA expects students at Masters Grade Level to succeed in the next grade or course with little or no academic intervention. Students in this category demonstrate the ability to think critically and apply the assessed knowledge and skills in varied contexts, both familiar and unfamiliar.
Meets Grade Level: Students at this performance level have met the assessment requirements and have a high likelihood of success in the next grade or course but may still need some short-term, targeted academic intervention. Students in this category generally demonstrate the ability to think critically and apply the assessed knowledge and skills in familiar contexts.
Approaches Grade Level: Students at this level have met the assessment requirements for purposes of Student Success Initiative grade promotion and graduation and are considered to have met at least the minimum passing standard. A student achieving Approaches Grade Level is likely to succeed in the next grade or course with targeted academic intervention. Students in this category generally demonstrate the ability to apply the assessed knowledge and skills in familiar contexts.
Does Not Meet Grade Level: Students at this level have not passed since performance indicates a student is unlikely to succeed in the next grade or course without significant, ongoing academic intervention. Students in this category do not demonstrate a sufficient understanding of the assessed knowledge and skills.
GMS HOSTS STEM PARENT NIGHT!
On April 29th GMS will be hosting a STEM Parent Night to showcase student work and provide an opportunity for parents to learn more about the middl STEM program. The night will run in a mini-conference format for parents and students in grades 4-8. During the night, parents and students will be able to attend 3 sessions of their choice and each topic is offered multiple times.
