News from our PTA Advocacy Committee
Parents,
NCPTA has always been a strong voice in favor of supporting the education of the whole child by providing a supportive and nurturing environment for all children to thrive and excel. Research demonstrates that kids who eat healthy meals do better in school and school nutrition is viewed as an academic intervention which improves student performance. More than 1.1 million children participate in school meal programs in NC every day, so healthy, local, and adequately funded school meals are an important part of improving student performance.
As a PTA advocate, I am asking you to join us and support this critical element of the success of all our children by asking the NC Senate Appropriations (Base Budget) Committee members to support a budget allocation for the Funds to Advance Rural Markets (FARMs) for School Meals.
Ask the NC Senate Appropriations Committee to include funding in their budget by email/call/tweet and support the FARMs for School Meals Act today!
Your email or tweet will be loaded to the Senator from your district in this group when you enter your address into the Voter Voice form. Please note, if you do not have a Senator from your district on the Senate Appropriations committee, you will not be able to send emails/tweets for this initiative. You can still sign up for the alerts and more opportunities will be coming soon! Keep the Remember Me and Send Me Email Alerts boxes checked to ensure you receive upcoming Voter Voice alerts.
FARMs for School Meals is good for children, good for farmers, and good for local economies. Please ask the members of the NC Senate Appropriations/Base Budget Committee to include funding in the budget for this important initiative.
Thank you for your continued support of healthy kids and schools! For more details on the bill and additional resources to support this effort, please visit our web site: www.farmsforschoolmeals.org. FARMs for School Meals can help ensure more students get what they need to succeed every day in NC schools - and you can make that happen for all NC children!
