What's Up in Our Classroom ~ April 10, 2015

Reading

We will continue to read in our novel groups and other nonfiction sources such as Wonderopolis and DOGO News. Please make sure your child is doing one READTHEORY per day. Ask them to show you their quiz scores. This site is available online. Check it out!

Language

Adjectives-We have been learning how to correctly order adjectives in sentence structure. (yes, can you believe there are actual rules to that?)

Prepositions and Prepositional Phrases - We have been learning about these in class. Students were asked to find examples while they were reading their guided reading book.

Writing

Our writing focus will be all about poetry. We started our unit on poetry. We will spend the majority of the last quarter becoming familiar with poems, dramas and prose. Students will learn to identify common structural elements of poems and dramas. They will also refer to structural elements of a poem or drama when explaining their differences. Students will write a variety of poems such as limericks, bio-poems, haikus, tankas and concretes.

Science

Careers and technology is the focus for the next couple of weeks. Students are exploring different careers and figuring out what they might be good at. They are being exposed to a variety of jobs and further delving in to see if they would be interested in pursuing them down the road. There is a tackk page in schoology. Ask us to show it to you!

Math

We've begun our last unit for math. Geometry is the focus. Students will draw and identify lines and angles, classify shapes by properties of their lines and angles, measure angles and understand concepts of angles.

Badger 3-8 Testing Snacks

Students will take the Badger 3-8 test on April 28th, May 5th, 6th and 7th.

If you are interested and willing to donate healthy snacks or drinks for our Badger 3-8 test, please sign up on this form. I appreciate you helping to feed the brains of our class. Healthy snack and drinks will help our students succeed. :)
