AMS Smart Pass System
AMS has replaced paper passes with the digital hall pass system SmartPass. SmartPass replaces traditional hall passes such as sign-out sheets, wooden blocks, passbooks, and lanyards.
It provides administrators an accounting of which students are outside of the classroom during the school day. In case of emergencies such as fires, severe weather, or building intruders, administrators have real-time access to this critical information. Overall, the pass history of a student will lead to more effective and informative parent-teacher conferences, as well as ensuring students are where they should be - in the classroom learning.
Students and staff can access SmartPass from their school-provided device or from their personal mobile device at www.smartpass.app/login.
For more information, please visit the SmartPass website www.smartpass.app.

Food Service
We are also transitioning from MiStar Parent Portal to Meal Magic Family Portal for all food service-related management including viewing your student’s meal purchases and making deposits into their meal account. Set up your student’s Meal Magic account and learn more at https://avondale.familyportal.cloud/. Note that if your student had an unspent balance in their MiStar meal account, that amount will be carried over into the new Meal Magic system.
Learn more about these changes to our food services here.
An additional note regarding Avondale Food Services is a reminder of the importance of sharing any allergies that your student may have with our Food Service Department. If your student has any food allergies, please fill out the form here and email it to megan.haase@avondaleschools.org.
An Important Message from Chartwell's (Emailed 3/22/2023)
Good afternoon, Avondale Families,
You may remember that during the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government funded a program that allowed all students access to free school meals. The program ended at the end of the 2021-22 school year and Congress did not approve continued funding of the program for subsequent school years.
Only students whose families have filled out and submitted the “Free or Reduced Application” found on the Meal Magic Family Portal are eligible to receive free or reduced school meals. All other students’ meals must be paid for either at the point of sale or through advanced payments made through the Meal Magic site.
If you are making advanced payments (pre-loading) your student’s account and the account goes into a negative balance, Meal Magic will send an email to you as a reminder to add money to your student’s account. Please do not think this email from Meal Magic is spam or an attempt to phish your account. It is a legitimate request to keep your student’s meal account in good standing.
I have included a document providing a refresher for how to use Meal Magic that also includes information about applying for your student to receive free or reduced meals. To download this information click HERE.
Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you for reviewing this information.
