Race Day Instructions- Please Read!
Race Info
Hi Trail Runners!
I hope this email finds everyone doing great. I am so excited to see you all next Saturday Oct 5th for the Monrovia Canyon Trail Runs. Below is all the information you will need for the event. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to send me an email. I will re-send this again next Thursday evening in case anyone needs it resent. Thanks so much!
Canceling or pulling out of race: At this point all the medals, shirts, and race day supplies have been bought. Permits have been paid for. I cannot offer refunds or roll overs at this point. You do not need to tell me you are not coming. Just go into your ultrasignup account, and click under registration history. From there you can just cancel your registration. Thanks!
Start time: Both events start together at 7am.
Bib pick up: At the start line starting at 5:45am. Please do not arrive before 5:30am.
Parking: All parking will be inside Monrovia Park at Camp Trask. I will have volunteers and signs directing you exactly where to go. Camp Trask is deep within Monrovia Canyon Park. It's VERY important once you arrive inside the park to please drive very slowly. Please. This park is a very special place, and the road into Camp Trask is also a road that bikers, hikers, and mountain bikers use, and is very popular. It will be dark on race morning, and I need you all to be very careful when driving in on this road and watch for pedestrians. So give yourself plenty of time on race morning to get to the start line. Thank you.
Parking is $10: Please bring money for parking on race morning. This must be cash. My volunteers can break $20 bills if needed, but it would be awesome if you could bring exact change. You will pay to park at Camp Trask. This is not money going to me. Thank you.
Aid stations and the course: Both the half marathon and 30k are very tough courses. They are both "out and back" routes. They follow the same exact routes except the 30k runners just go out farther along the course. These are tough mountain trails, and are very tough courses. You will have an aid station about every three miles along your routes.
**Half marathon: You will never go more than 3 miles w/out hitting an aid station. Keep in mind though that the entire first 6.5 miles is pretty much all uphill so please be prepared for that. Do not forget to turn around at your turn around aid station (aid station #3). If you go past this aid station you will be running on the 30k course. The volunteers will of course be watching out for this, but it's also up to you to turn around at this aid station, and head back to the finish. Do not go past this aid station on the course. We will have a big A-Frame sign here that says half marathoners turn around.
**30k: When you leave the third aid station you will have 4 miles w/out aid. Make sure to fill up with water at this aid station before you leave. You will hit the third aid station, run out two miles and get your bracelet, and then return to the aid station. Make sure to get your bracelet at the turn around so the aid station captain knows you did the out and back. Please note you will not have an aid station at your 30k turn around spot. You must get your bracelet here, and turn around. There will be signs telling you where to turn around, and a box with the bracelets. Please note your course will be a tiny bit shy of a 30k distance, BUT it's very tough. I promise all the climbing will make up for the half mile you will loose. This is a very tough 30k course.
Carrying water: Please wear some sort of hydration pack, waist belt, or carry a handheld to do this race. Both distances are tough, and it can get hot on the truck trail. Please carry water on you for this race in some manner. It's essential for this race.
Aid station food: All aid stations will have water, fluid electrolyte drink, GU Gels, Carbo pro, watermelon, oranges, and tons of sweet and salty snacks. I will also have ice at aid station #3 for all distances, and aid station #4 if you are in the 30k.
Markings for the course: I personally will mark every mile of this course. You will never go more than a 1/4 mile w/out seeing a course ribbon. This course will be marked very well. I promise!
Finish line: I will provide everyone with a free lunch at the finish line. I will have turkey or veggie subs, snacks, and lots of treats. All runners will receive a beautiful finishers medal, & race day shirt.
30k Cut off's: You have 7 hours to finish both distances. If you are doing the 30k you MUST make it to the 3rd aid station(mile 7) by 10am. If you get to the mile 7 aid station (where half marathoners turn around) after 10am you will be dropped down to the half marathon distance, and will just turn around at this aid station instead of continuing on to the 30k course.
Dropping down a distance: You absolutely can drop down. On race morning check in under the distance you are registered for, and then after you get your bib go over to my timing folks and let them know you are dropping down to the half marathon. Timing will be sitting at the start line under the start line arch. If you decide on course to drop down to the half marathon you must let "Sean Finnegan" (the captain at the third aid station) know you are dropping down. You must also let us know at the finish line.
Address and google map link to the start line:
Address: 1100 N Canyon Blvd, Monrovia, CA 91016
Directions once you enter Monrovia Canyon Park: As soon as you enter the actual park my volunteers will direct you to turn up Camp Trask road. This is a steep 1.5 mile road that will lead you into Camp Trask. I will drop flashy blinky lights all along this road for you to follow to the Camp Trask entrance. Just follow my volunteers with flags, the A-Frame signs, and the flashy blinky lights.
Thanks so much everyone. The weather as of now says is going to be a high of 78, and low of 59. The heat of the day won't be until the afternoon so most of the day should not be to hot. Have a great weekend, and I will see you all bright and early next Saturday. If for any reason you have any questions or concerns my email is: <leonaracedirector@gmail.com>
Sincerely,
Keira Henninger
