A Note from the Principal
Tomorrow is the BIG DAY....Walk-a-thon 2019: Continuing Forward in Faith, Hope & Love! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to our amazing PTO for all of the work that went into preparing for this special day! We hope to see a peek of sunshine, but no matter what the weather is, it will be a great day for the SPB community! The Walk-a-Thon kicks off at 1:00 tomorrow.
I hope that your children have been sharing with you the special Only One You project in which the entire school is participating. Older buddies are reading the book Only One You by Linda Kranz to younger buddies and presenting the book as a keepsake to them. Perhaps some of your children have brought home the book and shared it with you. The book contains many life lessons and stresses how everyone is unique and that each of us has something to contribute to the world. It ties in nicely with our Year 1 Catholic Identity goal for accreditation to promote solidarity and appreciate the differences of others. Our younger students are presenting their older buddies with a bookmark that includes one of the important messages from the book: "There's only one you in this great big world. Make it a better place." Buddies are working together to design their unique "rock" fish to add to our "river" just outside of our entrance. Buddies will be painting their unique fish at the end of October, and we hope to have our river teeming with fish by the first night of parent-teacher conferences. You will definitely want to keep an eye out for it!
All of this was made possible through the generosity of the Blessed Sacrament Ladies Guild. We cannot thank them enough for supporting this school-wide project and seeing the value of the positive messages and life lessons for our students found within this book. The Ladies Guild purchased over 200 books for our younger students, bookmarks for our older students, painting supplies for the rocks, and landscaping supplies for the river. It has been touching to see our buddies reading, working, and learning together, and our river will be a reminder to all of us that each of us is unique and that each of us has something important and special to share with the world. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, Ladies Guild!
Blessings,
Diane Raguz, Principal
Walk-a-thon Attire for tomorrow
Our Walk-a-Thon is tomorrow, Friday, October 18, and it looks like the weather is going to be a little chilly! Students who have an official 2019 Walk-a-Thon t-shirt may wear the shirt with jeans, sweatpants, or windpants and tennis shoes. Students should not wear shorts or torn/ripped jeans. If your child does not have the 2019 Walk-a-Thon shirt, he/she may dress in his/her gym uniform with tennis shoes on Friday. Please note: The Walk-a-Thon committee does not sell t-shirts. They were only available by participating in one of the fundraising options of the Walk-a-Thon.
Recess Lap Walking Medals will be distributed to students before the walk on Friday. Students can proudly wear them during the Walk-a-Thon. An awards ceremony to recognize top walkers will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday.
Look for the final earnings report and sponsor thank you letters in your communication folder soon.
Congratulations, Brain Brawlers!

Wizard of Oz 8th Grade Tryouts
Looking Ahead to Halloween
There are so many opportunities for our students to enjoy Halloween including the Parish Trunk or Treat on Sunday, October 20. As a school community, we are asking that parents do not send in any candy treats for Grades K-8. We are aware that your children will receive candy in many other places. Should a teacher need help with a Halloween celebration, he or she will give room captains a call for whatever is needed. Check next week’s Family Newsletter for information about Student Council activities for students in Kindergarten-Grade 2.
In previous years, we shared the following list as a way to focus on values at Halloween and feel it is worth repeating. Enjoy.

Grade 8 Class Play
Hello SPB Families!
One of the highlights of Eighth Grade at SPB is the Class Play. This year the students will present The Wizard of Oz the weekend of March 6, 7, and 8. This play is a parent-run production, and we need your support. The students are selling Yankee Candle products to raise money for all of the costs associated with production.
The profits from the sale will go to defray play expenses- Let's give the 8th graders a fantastic experience!
- Yankee Candle offers two ways to sell: catalog and online. 40% of every sale goes directly to the play budget!
- Here is the link for online catalog and online purchasing: www.yankeecandlefundraising.com . The group number for the SPB 8th grade is 999995461.
- This link is already active and you can shop whenever you'd like!
- Over 500 quality products available online and new items through the season from Yankee Candle, Calphalon, Coleman, CrockPot, Oster and many more. Name-brand home products you know and use!
- Our catalog sale is open now, until October 29.
- Share the link to the catalog with friends, family, and neighbors! These items make great Christmas gifts and host/hostess gifts. There are products for Fall, Winter, and all year long!
- Great Products for a Great Cause- The 8th Grade Play!
- See Beth Mennel for more information, or if you have any questions. 440-759-4694 or bsmennel@gmail.com

Playground/Lunchroom Volunteer Sign Ups
Thank you, Grade 7 Parents/Guardians, for signing up for October! Most of the beginning of the month is full, but many days at the end of the month are still waiting for volunteers!
The links for November for Grade 6, and December for Grade 5 can be found below. With the holiday season just ahead, we know that you will want to get the dates that work for your busy schedule!
We are asking that each family (mom, dad, grandma, etc.) choose at least two days to volunteer each time slot being 11:00-1:00. We are so grateful for the help!
This is a great way for you to interact with your child and his/her classmates during the school day! Lunch/Recess Volunteers should arrive to school at 11:00 and check in at the office. Duties will include supervising students at recess, escorting students to the cafeteria from recess, and supervising in the cafeteria. Volunteers will be with one teacher and two "core" volunteers each day to help direct. Remember that after your two volunteer time slots, you are done for the year, as each month is assigned to a different grade.
Thank you again for your time and service to the students and teachers of SPB! Simply click on the grade level link to pick a time convenient for you: Grade 7, Grade 6, Grade 5.
