Library Book Information
Lost Books
Does your student have a lost book, but it is not possible for your family to pay the fine right now?
Look at the following options and select a solution that works for your family.
Possible Solutions
1. The library could accept another copy of the same book, if it is in good condition and hardcover or paperback, as the original. These can often be found online.
o People have found books at ABE Books – abebooks.com
o Others have found books at Amazon – amazon.com
o Use any source you’d like.
o Follow the Gently Used Book Criteria.
2. The library could accept gently used books up to the cost of the fine.
o Follow the Gently Used Book Criteria.
o Retail value would be used.
Gently Used Book Criteria:
· Donated materials should be new or barely used (in good to excellent condition with no writing or other defacing), SMOKE and mold free;
· Reference materials, including atlases, encyclopedias, subject specific multi-volume sets, and other non-fiction resources should be no more than three years old;
· Fiction books should be no more than eight years old with the exception of books by well known children’s authors and classics or other titles specified by library staff.
· All materials should have a reading level and an interest level of kindergarten through 6th grade and be of high literary quality;
· Materials that generally are not appropriate for library use, such as textbooks, will not be accepted.
Avoid the Summer Reading Slump
Taking the summer off from everything sounds like so much fun. When it comes to reading it can have some interesting results. Kids who don’t read over the summer can lose 2 to 3 months of growth. No one wants that shock next fall.
Find some good books and keep the reading going. Kids who read daily over the summer can not only maintain their reading level, but can also increase in ability and fluency (rate of speed). Enjoy reading every day!
What if my child doesn’t like to read? That usually means one of two things. First, reading is hard, in which case practice is the perfect solution. Or, second he/she hasn’t found the right topic. Find books about the things your child likes and enjoy reading every day!
EL Family Night Invites You...
Please join us for English Learner Family Celebration Night! All are welcome to this event. Our students have worked very hard to build their English skills and to tackle ELPA21 which is a very rigorous test. Their scores on ELPA21 demonstrated fantastic growth this year! We will be celebrating Tuesday, June 12th from 6:00-8:00 in the Lewis & Clark Gym. The gym will have lots of family games to play. Desserts and refreshments will be served. This will be a wonderful night to connect with amazing families and staff.
