Reflections from Elder's Desk
As the end of a semester draws near, Tiger administrators have been delving into our data to examine the growth that we have made as an AMCHS family and discussing the areas that we need to improve. Behaviorally, missed detentions and failure to follow directions have been the two areas students struggle with the most (based on our referrals). Academically, we have pockets of students who have not adjusted well to the level of rigor expected at AMCHS.
A few weeks ago, I visited with some of our struggling learners to gain insight into why they underachieved. Some of them did not have the knowledge and confidence to bounce back from their poor performance during the six weeks and others had good intentions on doing well but lack the skill set to push through their challenges. Therefore, our students reverted back to familiarity when they were under stress. Thus, we must model what success looks like--behaviorally and academically. So, use your influence and connect with our struggling learners and demand their success. You can make a difference!
