Cambrian School District - Winter Edition 2021

Hello and welcome to our Newsletter for Parents of English Learners. In this newsletter, you will find information regarding different topics that are informative and educational for our Cambrian School District English Learners and their families.

Big picture

Universal Transitional Kindergarten

Transitional Kindergarten (TK) enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year begins on January 24, 2022.

TK Enrollment for 2022-23

  • Students born between 9/2/2017 - 2/2/2018 are eligible for TK in 2022-2023

The enacted budget establishes the path toward universal TK by phasing in, from the 2022-23 through 2025-26 school years, the requirement to admit eligible students to a TK program. As a condition of funds, an LEA shall do all of the following:

  • Maintain an average TK class enrollment of no more than 24 students for each school site.
  • Beginning in the 2022-23 school year, maintain a staff-to-student ratio of 1:12.
  • Beginning in the 2023-24 school year and for each year thereafter, maintain a staff-to-student ratio of 1:10 students.

For more information about TK and whether you can enroll your child for TK for the 2022-23 school year, please visit our TK Website link: https://www.cambriansd.org/site/default.aspx?PageID=1771.

REMINDER! CSD Community Parent Language Network Opportunity

Please take a few minutes to complete the Language Network Survey. CSD would like to provide our EL families the opportunity to connect with other families who share a common primary language other than English.

If you are interested in creating, joining, or learning more about the CSD School Community Parent Language Network, please complete the survey below. If there is enough interest for a particular language network group, a parent coordinator will reach out to you.

English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)

Whenever there are 21 or more English Learners at a school site, there needs to be a functioning English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC). The committee advises the principal on the development of the school plan for English Learners. The committee assists the school by conducting the needs assessment and administration of the language census. The parents of English Learners are elected and one of the members serves as the District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC) representative. Please contact your child’s school for more information on the ELAC and how you can get involved in supporting your child's education. Kidappolis: School Edition

Kidappolis: School Edition is an app that provides interactive, caregiver-led early learning opportunities. With Kidappolis, caregivers walk children ages 2-10 through a series of mini skill assessments to identify the child’s primary areas of need. They receive personalized, curated app recommendations that foster specific early learning, literacy, and numeracy goals. Caregivers receive an easy-to-use playlist of on- and offline learning activities that build their child's confidence, so families can enjoy bonding while learning together. Cambrian has partnered with Litlab (https://www.litlab.org/kidappolis) to provide free access to Kidappolis.
