Thornhill Elementary PFC Newsletter
Volume 27, Issue 28, March 10, 2020
From the Principal
Dear Thornhill Thunderbird Families,
I am looking forward to seeing you all at the Auction this weekend. Every year the Auction is a key event to fundraise for our amazing school. This year more than ever we are counting on your participation as we are facing some cuts from OUSD. We know everyone can't be there on Saturday night. If the auction isn't on your calendar, please consider donating here to support our school.
OUSD is discussing $21 million in budget cuts, leaving Thornhill with an additional $115,000 to fundraise for next year. These cuts will impact our front office, classroom aides and STIP SUBs. All of these people play a key role in the day-to-day functioning of the school, providing intervention support for students and covering classes when there are no substitute teachers available. These are critical resources that allow us to meet individual student needs and maintain safe, healthy, and productive classrooms.
I have been very grateful for the abundance we have had and would like to continue to staff Thornhill like we are staffed today. Together, we can continue to make Thornhill a great place for our kids! I am looking forward to seeing you Saturday and enjoying this spectacular fundraiser. Thanking you all in advance for your generosity and your care for Thornhill Elementary School. It truly is a special place!
Thunderbirds Rule!
Mr. Daubenspeck

It’s Auction Week!!!
Calling all Flappers and Fedoras fans! The Thornhill Auction is still on THIS SATURDAY at the Fratellanza Club, so get ready to eat, drink, mingle and bid. Here are a few key things to do and plan for this week before the auction:
Check in online: If you bought Auction tickets, you should have an email (or two) with a personal link to check in online before the Auction. This is important because it avoids delays at the door, and allows you to vault your credit card in advance. The auction is cashless so you need to do this if you want to buy anything on Auction night, including drink tickets.
Check out the catalog online: There are A TON of fantastic items, parent-hosted parties, teacher-hosted parties, and more available to bid on during the silent auction--the catalog is in progress and updated regularly, so check it often this week to make sure you have time to bid on everything you want.
Doors open at 6. Please note that the 1920s theme is encouraged but optional. The most important thing is that we have fun together and raise money for the school, so don’t let any lack of costumery deter you!
Volunteers needed!!!! A great auction takes a village and every village needs some muscle and people-power. We need a little bit of your time to keep the auction event moving, fun, and wildly successful. Sign up for a shift and we'll buy you a beverage. And if you have friends or family who want to volunteer, they can sign up here. We especially need many Data Entry folks for one-hour shifts from 7-8pm, 8-9pm, and 9-10pm.
After party details: Make your sitter earn those dollars and join us at Prizefighter for the after party. Yummy drinks and chill vibe to relive the epic auction moments.

About the Thornhill Newsletter
The Thornhill Parent-Faculty Club (PFC) eNews team publishes this weekly newsletter each Tuesday in the school year to communicate school, PFC and OUSD news, events and information.
Email submissions to our Newsletter Chair, Evie Nagy, at newsletter@thornhillschool.org by 8 p.m. Thursday for approval—nothing sent after this will be included in the following week’s newsletter unless there are extremely compelling extenuating circumstances. It’s fine to include text in the body of the email with links and no formatting, and attach photos preferably as 150 x 150, 72 dpi JPG or GIFs only (not embedded in email or Word file). Submissions may be edited for spelling, grammar, brevity and clarity. Advertising and items not related to Thornhill are not accepted, as we need to keep the newsletter focused on need-to-know info for the community.
THANK YOU to everyone who submits articles and to PFC Board Members, Teachers, VP of Communications Erin Proudfoot, PFC President Rex Crum, and Principal Steve Daubenspeck. Member of Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).
