Fun 100 Day Celebrations!
Our grade level snack closets are now called "Chandler's Closet" in memory of Chandler Mills.
The following text was submitted by our PTA and read at the PTA Council Meeting on Wednesday when they announced that Abbett was PTA of the Month!
In October, our Assistant Principal Ralph Mills and his wife Kimberly, welcomed their twins at VERY early 23 weeks-one boy (Chandler) and one girl (Carrington). After several weeks in the NICU, Chandler was called home. Knowing that Chandler’s dad has a passion for giving back especially to children in need, we created Chandler’s Closet in order for his legacy to live on through the spirt of giving. Chandler’s Closet is a program that helps children in need. Being a Title I school, we often have kids who go without even the simplest of items. This allows our school counselor, nurse, teachers and administrators to immediately meet the needs of these children whether they need snacks, school supplies or even hygiene products. The program is financed 100% through PTA & parent donations.
Chandler’s Closet also identified 9 families with the greatest need during the holidays. In some cases, the meals that these kids get during school are their only meals that day. During the Thanksgiving holiday, we ensured that each family would have enough food not only to get through the week, but they would also be provided with enough to make a Thanksgiving dinner of their own. During December, we celebrated by shopping for these families and delivering food, gifts and warm clothes to each family. We wanted to ensure each child and family would not be forgotten over the holiday season.
While our submission is not a single event, our hope that the spirit of giving that we foster in our PTA is infectious, makes a difference in someone’s life and allows the legacy of a little boy to live on through helping others.
Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year, Jennifer Pontius!
Reminder: sign up in the lab to use the new set of Ipads!

Thinking Ahead....Half-Day Data Meetings
As you begin to look at MAP data, I want to let you know about the goals for the data meetings the week of February 15. It is important that everyone arrives on time and ready to learn and collaborate!
As teams, we will:
1. Disaggregate classroom MAP data and discuss expected growth
2. Create action plans for using the learning continuum and learning standards to fill in the gaps and focus on specific skills
3. Complete PSMs
4. Any other topics or discussions that you need to work on with your team.
Now for the FUN Part!
We will order lunch each day for any of you who are interested since you may be missing your designated grade level lunch time. We will have several places to choose from, so please have cash ready and we will help facilitate the ordering and delivering of lunch.
