Jeff Rexford receives Principal Leadership Award
Message from Jeff and Yolanda
As we get towards the end of the year, the more events that take place.
- On Thursday, Jeff Rexford, was honored at the Principal Leadership Awards ceremony hosted by the Florida Tax Watch Association in Orlando, FL. Jeff was presented with a plaque as well as a two year, college scholarship which he will present to a current LWTHS student. Darlene Crete, Jonah Nicosia as well as members of his family were in attendance. The morning after, he participated in an educational roundtable discussion with current and past winners of the Principal Leadership Awards. Congratulations Jeff!
- On Thursday, 300 Adult Education students from BCHS, GGHS, LHS, LWTC & PRHS attended "The Cuban Guy" event at Lorenzo Walker Technical College on Thursday, April 19th. There were a number of take-a-ways from the event such as building culture and community, making learning relevant to students, and reminding each one of us to take ownership of one's own learning and actions.
- On Wednesday, the ladies from Golden Gate Learning Center visited and toured LWTC giving them a better understanding of the possibilities of continuing education for themselves and for their children.
- On Friday, 9th grade students at LWTHS were rewarded for their diligent work in quarter 3 with a BBQ. In order to qualify for the incentive, students had to have no unexcused absences or tardies, no infractions or referrals, & maintain all A's and B's. This is a tremendous accomplishment and overwhelming that so many earned it!!!
Wednesday, April 25th is Administrative Professionals Day and we will have a breakfast to honor all support staff who play a huge part in the success of our school. The mission of LWTHS, LWTC and Adult and Community Education could not be accomplished if it weren't for all of the talented, caring and hard-working administrative professionals on our campus. Be sure to thank the administrative professionals for all that they do for you and students each and every day!

Coaches' Corner
From One Student to Another
Not all students here at LWTC/ACE/LWTHS will be finished with their programs on May 31st, but seniors will graduate, other high school students will take a summer break, and many adults will be entering the work force soon, leaving their spots to be filled by the next wave of students.
What better way to wrap things up then by inviting your current students to lend advice to their successors? Imagine starting your course/program by reading quotes from multiple letters from your own students, the ones who know best what your course/program is like.
To get some good stuff from your current students, here are some simple steps to take:
1) Make a list of your entire curriculum. Use the whiteboard to list the knowledge, skills, methods, and activities you’ve covered together over the past year or months.
2) Now list the traits of successful students in this course/program. What are the habits, attitudes, and techniques that produce excellent results in your course/program?
3) What are the ways to ensure failure? Have your students brainstorm the choices that lead to problems in your course/program.
4) Now write a brief letter to future students. Invite each individual student to write a letter of advice to let the next wave of students know what to expect, how to thrive, and how to avoid disappointment.
For some relevant examples, here are some letters from graduating college students to incoming freshmen.
