Video Conferencing
Guidlines and Permission Form
Dear Parents and Guardians,
These tools are free, web-based conferencing platforms for small or large group meetings which will allow our staff to interact more fully with your child(ren) via audio, video, file, and screen sharing.
The tools our teachers will use are COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act), FERPA (Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act) and HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) compliant.
It is expected that all parents will respond to this consent form to indicate whether your child will be allowed to participate in audio and video conferencing through our distance learning plan. Participation in audio/video conferencing will remain optional for families. Please click on the button below to access the permission form and to review guidelines. We are asking that parents complete this form by Friday, September 11th. WE WOULD APPRECIATE ALL PARENT'S COOPERATION IN COMPLETING THIS CONSENT FORM.
Video Conferencing Guidelines for Parents and Students
Distance Learning requires a partnership between school and home. As this is a dramatic change for all of us, we are mindful of the demands that it places on everyone - teachers, parents, and students - and the need for flexibility and adaptability as well as fun. But it is also important that we try to maintain a structure that replicates, to the extent possible, that of the classroom and the typical routines of school life. This will benefit our students both academically and emotionally, as keeping to routines is important during a time of change and uncertainty.
During distance learning all school rules, student code of conduct, and board policies apply, including the Acceptable Use Policy #815.
We expect that our parents and student adhere to the following guidelines while participating in any type of live video conferencing:
Conduct
- Background noises make it more difficult to meet online. Students should be on mute and wait for recognition by the teacher before they unmute themselves and speak to the group.
- Only one participant should speak at a time. Comment in the “Chat” if you want to share and wait to be recognized.
- Students should be respectful to all members of the online classroom. Remember this is a learning tool and a school setting.
- Students should act appropriately as if they were in a classroom and avoid behavior that would cause a disruption to the lesson.
- School administrators will be contacting parents of students exhibiting inappropriate behavior during lessons.
- Students or parents are NOT PERMITTED to record/take pictures/screenshots of any part of video conferencing lessons.
- Nothing should be posted on social media.
Setting
Provide a quiet environment that allows students to focus and apply themselves to the assignments given. Turn off the TV and other distractions.
Please treat any type of video conferencing time with your child's teacher as a regular lesson. Younger (or older) siblings should not be interrupting this time
This is also not a time for parents to conference with the teacher.
We understand that parents may have to help younger kids manage whichever device is being used; beyond this, however, the teacher must be allowed to interact with the students as he/she would in a regular classroom. There can still be fun, of course, but the time should be guided by the teachers' guidelines and tasks.
Older grades, in particular, should be prepared for these lessons by being in a quiet space (or using headphones), and ready with questions or work they need to share.
Students should not be using their phones unless it is part of their participation in the lesson.
Students should not be laying down. Remember this is a class setting.
Student should be dressed in school-appropriate clothing.
Please reach out to our technology helpline at techhelp@interborosd.org if you have any technical issues or questions, as they ae best able to troubleshoot for you. The teachers are busy working on lesson preparation and grading.
Thank you for all that you are already doing to make this transition easier for everyone, and to support your child(ren)'s learning. Your continued support and cooperation are very much appreciated.
