Welcome Drake Johnson!!!
Hello! My name is Drake Johnson and I am working as the summer intern at the extension office this year. I grew up in Northeast Nebraska in Thurston County and graduated from Pender High School. I was very active in 4-H primarily showing horses, and in my high school years was very involved in our school’s FFA chapter. I attended the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture (NCTA,) in Curtis, NE after graduating high school. I earned my Associate Degrees in both Ag Production Systems and Agribusiness and graduated from the college in May 2017. During my time there I had the privilege of being a competitive member of the Ranch Horse Team. After my time at NCTA, I decided to take a year off from school before transferring to UNL and I moved down to Ardmore, Oklahoma were I was an assistant trainer/ranch manager at Cowan Ranch, a cutting horse training and breeding facility. I am very passionate about the equine industry in both the training and reproduction aspects. I will be continuing my education at UNL in the fall of 2018. I keep busy training and showing Quarter Horses at ranch horse versatility shows. I am eager to see what kind of experiences this job will offer me this summer!

Range Judging
Interested in Range judging but not entirely sure what it is? Nebraska is known for being a state with a large amount of range land, which supports our large livestock industry. Range judging involves identifying plant species, evaluating range land, and teaches interaction between plants and soil, and plant and animal interaction as well. An important objective of Range judging is to help participants better understand range land ecosystems in order to make proper management decisions. Join us at the 2018 Range Judging Clinic and Contest on June 25, 2018 at Diamond Bar Ranch near Stapleton to learn more about Nebraska’s range land.
