Social Studies
Innovation
In the Innovation Lab this month, we will focus our tinkering around Thanksgiving. The children will take part in the Mayflower challenge, which requires them to create a tin foil Mayflower that can hold a Pilgrim figurine as it sails across the water table and weathers a storm (the breeze from a fan).
Art
In Prekindergarten, the children will explore shapes in art during November art classes. One of the activities includes making circles while printing with pumpkins and gourds cut in half. Other geometric shapes, like squares and triangles, will be cut and glued for collages. How many geometric shapes can you find in your home? Do you know what your child's favorite shape is?
Woodworking
Students have been learning the proper way to use numerous different tools. So far they have used tape measures, screwdrivers, wrenches and sanding blocks. Students have learned the difference between screws and bolts. They will use these skills to help improve the climbing structure for the goats! Ask them, why do we use tools?
Science
We have just started our unit on trees this year! We observed the magnolia, oak, Chinese pistachio and pine tree here at Lamplighter and learned about the different parts of trees. In our classroom, we observed trees parts up close using magnifying glasses and the dino-scope. We will continue our study of trees as we learn about the four seasons and the life cycle of a tree. We will also be learning more about the animals that live in trees as well as the fruit that some trees give us.
Spanish
Ask your child about...
- What are you grateful for?
- Their favorite community helper.
- What is your favorite corn from the tasting?
