Calling for Donations to the Friendship Room!
This time of year many families start clearing out toys and other items that kids are no longer playing with at home. If the item is in good condition, please consider donating it to our Friendship Room. Our Friendship Room is open every day during lunch and is an alternative place for our Panthers to play with the support of staff.
We are looking for a foosball table, building toys, imagination play sets (castles, western town, etc), art supplies, bean bags in good condition, games, puzzles(with all the pieces), and more. We cannot accept toys that make noise. require batteriers, or are combative.
If you would like to make a donation of items for our Friendship Room, please contact kharvick@tvusd.us to arrange a time we are open to drop the items off. Thank you for your consideration!
Paloma Panthers are THRIVERS!
During the month of November, we will be learning about Integrity!
How to Teach Kids Integrity
Remember TEACH
T= Target your touchstones! Parents can reflect on the morals that you see as the most important. Create a prioritized list to display around your home and emphasize the "touchstones" as often as possible. These morals are a guiding compass for your family and should be given a high priority. Think of it as the same as posting your family schedule.
E= Exemplify Character! Modeling is the best way to boost your child's integrity. Talk about character and integrity with your children. Ask them how they would describe someone who has integrity. What are their character traits. Ask them how they describe you and themselves. Do they see character traits in you and themselves that mirror people who have integrity?
A=Accentuate with a Motto! Last week we talked about creating a family motto, posting it and living by it. Ask your children: "What kind of family do we want to be" or "How do we want people to describe us?" Then work together to create a short catchy phrase that describes what your family wants to be. Post it, repeat it, tell others about it and live by it. You might even inspire others to do the same.
C= Catch it! When you see yourself or your children showing integrity, point it out! Be specific when describing how they showed integrity. Celebrate it! Make a big deal about it to them and to others. Examples: "It took courage to be honest and tell Dad you lost his pen." or "I like how respectful your were waiting for Grandma to finish speaking."
H= Highlight it! Find moments throughout the day to talk about integrity. If you put the time into teaching it during these moments, it will make all the difference.
Next week we will learn more about Intergrity
from Michele Borba's book, Thrivers.
Safety at Arrival and Dismissal
Let's keep all Panthers safe at school!
When using the loop to pick up or drop off your child by car, PLEASE.....
- Only park in appropriate areas. The pick up loop can be a very busy place, especially on modified days. However, it is important to remember to only park in designated parking spaces. Please do not park along curbs that are painted red or in handicap spots unless you have a handicap placard. If there is not parking available when you arrive, you will need to park on the street and walk to meet your child or join the pick up loop. If you are parked in these areas, you will be asked to move.
- Always use the crosswalks.
- Do not use the parking lot as an additional pick-up line. This blocks access to parking spaces, including handicap spots. If there is not an open parking spot, please pull through and go around again to look for an opening or join the loop pick up line.
- Stay in your car when using the loop. If your child needs assistance entering or exiting the car, please park in the lot and walk them to their gate.
- Move all the way forward as directed by the school staff.
- In the morning, do not wait until your child reaches the gate to pull away. Staying in the loop and watching your child walk in through the gate, slows the flow of traffic. If you would like to watch your child enter the gate, please park your car and walk your child.
- At dismissal, do not stop in the loop and wait for your child to come your direction, instead pull up when there is space to pull forward. Pull all the way forward and continue to move forward with the traffic. Your child will walk down towards you.
We appreciate your continued cooperation and patience.
