February edition
Hello there! Our February edition will continue with the conversation around accelerated learning with a focus on our multilingual learners, what's going on around The Lane, and reminders from your tech liaisons.
Accelerate Learning: Multilingual Learners
*Remember to look at all characteristics of a multilingual learner.*
Some vocab:
- EL = English Learners
- REL = Reclassified English Learners, exited the ESOL program within two years, scored 4.5 or higher on WIDA.
- Ever-EL = Students who has fully exited the ESOL program
Ellevation:
- Teachers have access through office.com - all apps
- Every teacher has access to the strategies tab whether ELL students are in their classroom or not.
- Teachers can view test results, student "can dos" - what their student can do at each level, testing accommodations, and goals.
- Modules tab - the professional development piece of Ellevation - there's teacher interactions and reflections.
- Activities tab - activities listed by categories, great to do with whole group, can search by type, and contains virtual activities as well.
- Collections tab - a sequence of activities to help ELL students reach standards, contains scaffolds, and you can search by grade level.
Click the link below for a quick tour of Ellevation and make sure to contact our wonderful ESOL teacher Katelyn Matuszak for more support!
Church Lane celebrates Black History Month!
News from Jess and Mary Cate!
- Students Passwords will not change for the 2021-2022 school year!
- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE encourage students to continue to charge their devices EVERY night - especially with MAP testing starting!
- Encourage students to also bring in headphones if they have a set at home.
- Device storage - it may be beneficial to think of an area in the classroom to host devices while they are not in use. This could decrease the use of nonpurposeful tech during the day and device drops. Our carts can still be used for storage! Show me your unique way to store devices for a raffle entry! :-)
- Feel free to label devices with student names, numbers, grade level, or teacher name with tape or sticky labels.
- Continue to use Go Guardian to monitor safe use of tech. I like to "extend" Go Guardian on my large monitor to view while my device and projector screen are duplicated.
