Warwick Academy Primary Library

Spring Term 2016

Welcome back!

The "Junior Librarian" program initiated last year to foster independence and collaboration amongst students has now produced a generation of autonomous Library users . Therefore, the introduction of new "Student ID cards" last term went very smoothly and was embraced by all. During Spring, students also enjoyed a brand new collection of Library books partly funded thanks to the generosity of parents supporting the Funds4books program. Their contributions are acknowledged below. This term, the Library is preparing for its yearly inventory (June 15th) and before we send students on their summer vacation with an exciting audiobook summer program, we kindly ask parents to ensure all Library books are returned by June 10th.

Thanks for your cooperation,

Françoise Wolffe

Spring Library Aquisitions

From the hilarious and nasty Mr. Gum to the spunky Pippi Longstocking, young readers were up for a treat as the Library acquired both series in attractive editions. New arrivals also included exciting titles for older students. With the "Step-into-Science" collection, readers were introduced to scientific investigation and with "Playmakers" young athletes could learn more about their favourite sport idol from Messi to Rory McilRoy. For a comprehensive list of titles acquired last term please consult the Library catalogue on the Primary Page (Please click on the "Library" icon on crystal menu).

Brithday Book Presentations

A warm thank you to this term's Birthday Book Scheme's participants. Please visit the Primary Page on FROG and click on the "Library" icon on the crystal menu for the list of donors and further information on this program. Our last Birthday Book assemblies for the school year are scheduled during the week commencing on May 30th.

Bermuda's Flying Flowers

Mr. Ras Mykkal, author and photographer of "Bermuda's Flying Flowers" will visit our Upper Primary Assembly in June to share his passion for the Bermuda butterflies which he captured through his lens. A signed copy of this quality book will also be offered at a discounted price to all WA primary parents.

Summer Reading Programs

Next term's newsletter will contain details about the WA Library Summer Reading Program. In the meantime, we invite you to read youth author Kate Di Camillo's "Top Ten reasons to attend your local Library Summer Reading Program" and encourage your child to visit Libraries wherever your holiday's travels take you, starting with the Bermuda National Youth Library.
