Term 3 Week 4

RAISE Goal: to be considerate of others

Te reo phrase of the week: kia pai to korero (please speak nicely)

Kia ora,

This week definitely had a sense of deja vu about it, but ultimately as a school we are well placed to continue your child’s learning journey, albeit from a distance. Yesterday Emma made an amazing effort to contact a large number of our community to check in and see if you need any further resources to support your children with distance learning. Most of our students have access to a device at home, which makes it a lot easier for them to engage in daily learning activities set by their teacher.

Even though the lockdown has only been extended to Tuesday night, our approach is to plan ahead for a longer period of time. Therefore your children will have set activities ready for them to complete starting Monday morning. If you informed Emma that your child needs to borrow a school device during lockdown, we will email you directly over the weekend with a contract to complete and instructions about how to make a contactless pick up on Monday morning. For those of you who don’t have a strong internet connection, a small number of us headed into school today to prepare hard copy resource packs, which will be sent out immediately.

Rear A Bull Scheme

Brent Espin has kindly put together the Rear a bull fundraiser scheme for our school again this year. It involves our parents/caregivers, community members, and supporters of the school tagging one of their beef calves for Matapu School. Please check out the full details by clicking on the following link https://www.matapu.school.nz/information/rear-a-bull and contact Brent on 027 551 3660 to get set up. Please note that all of the 2020 and 2021 rear a bull funds will be put towards a decked outdoor area with a roof and a shed to the side. The shed will house workbenches and tools. This is a great example of how we are aiming to further develop our students’ practical skills and give them a balanced education. Thank you so much to those of you who have already made contact about rearing a bull for Matapu School this year.

Thank you for the support that you have given our school and your children as we transition back to distance learning. Let’s cross our fingers that it won’t be for too long.

Have a wonderful weekend.
