Why Mental Health First Aid?
Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify,
understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and
substance use disorders. This 6.5-hour training gives adults who
work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial
support to adolescents (ages 12-25) who may be developing a mental
health or substance use problem and help connect them to the
An evidence-based program, adopted in over 20 countries, Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches the five-step ALGEE action plan:
Assess for risk of suicide or harm
Listen nonjudgementally
Give reassurance and information
Encourage appropriate professional help
Encourage self-help and other support strategies
Course Overview Information
Participants will receive a login to a self-paced pre-study (2 hours on your own prior to the scheduled date)
Participants will then receive access to a virtual instructor-led session
Each participant will also receive:
- a certificate of attendance
- a digital manual
- training evaluation
- a Miami University pre-survey and post-survey
- ongoing mental health resources and support
What do I need?
Each participant must have both audio and video technology to participate
