A Message From Our Principal

Spring is upon us! It has been wonderful to see the outdoor athletic teams practicing and preparing to compete. Missing last year was hard for them so hopefully this season they can enjoy playing and winning for EHTHS.

As for academics, Monday April 19th will be the last full virtual day for all students as they know it., On Monday April 26th we will begin to have five day in person learning for all the students who have chosen to be in person. At this time there will be no other transition to in person learning. Any student who is all virtual will remain that way for the remainder of the 2021 school year.

National Honor Society inductions will take place on April 22nd, 2021. The ceremony will take place in the early afternoon. Unfortunately, due to the number of students involved, we are close to indoor capacity. Parents and guardians will not be able to attend, however, the ceremony will be live streamed for your viewing pleasure.

Our English Language Learners will be taking the mandated ACCESS test in the next two weeks. All the ELL virtual students will have to come to school to take their test. Teachers will inform and guide them on what to do and the expectations. Good luck to all of these students!

Many of our AP courses are starting to administer practice tests to prepare for the Advanced Placement tests.

During our spring break we continued to have great things happening at EHTHS, mainly our theatre production of “Les Miserables.” The play was incredible and if you missed it you will be able to see the video of it once it is edited and ready. Keep checking the web page for the video production and enjoy it. The cast and crew were wonderful! Kudos to Mr. Kristeller and his team for helping to support the cast and crew!

EHT Idol continues each week. Don’t forget to vote!!! Go to the HS web page each week you will see two students, listen to their take and vote for one! It’s that simple! The final four are scheduled the week of May 10th. Rock the house everyone!!!

Our indoor percussion team came in first place in their virtual competition on April 1st. They were fabulous! Also coming up, the drumline and colorguard will host a competition coming up on April 27th. With limited in person guests permitted, it will be live streamed so continue to check the web page for the link.

As you know we will be having a prom. The information unfortunately is a little behind due to some necessary changes. I spoke with members of the senior class on Thursday to share the progress and they had some great ideas. At this time, Harrah's is not able to accommodate us the way we would like and therefore have released us from our contract. I am now making some final decisions and will get the information and prom packets out early next week. Due to the changes the packets need updating. Don’t panic anyone, we got this. It is going to happen!

Until next week, stay safe, be well, continue to dream of the possibilities ahead of us, be happy and smile at someone!

Students of the Week

Student: Ronald Harley

Nominated By: Ms. Miro

Everyday when Ronald comes to class he greets me and the other students with a "Bonjour" and a smile. He always initiates small talk in French with me before class starts and he stays shortly after the bell to help clean desks, chairs, and Chromebooks. He's even offered on more than one occasion to help a lost Freshman in the hallways.

Student: Jenny Bautista

Nominated By: Mrs. Jerome

Jenny is a very active participant in class. We can always count on her to move our class discussions forward. She is quite positive and insightful.

ACCESS Testing

All our English Learners are mandated to take the ACCESS test. In-person learners will complete their testing between April 20 – 23. Virtual students will be coming to the High School to complete their testing between April 26 – 30. We wish them the best of luck!

The girls volleyball team has had a very busy, intense, compacted season this Spring! Varsity is currently 2-6, but is looking to finish up strong. We have 4 games left in our season, which will conclude next Friday 4/23. Seniors Destiny Vatthanavong, Payton Keblish, and Tylina Nguyen have had a tremendous impact on the team, leading the rest of the underclassman and helping the team grow! We end the week with two home games against Pleasantville and Middle Township. Go Eagles!

Boys Volleyball is starting its inaugural season on Monday at the Prep. The boys are led by senior setter and captain Ivan Wang as well as junior outside hitter Scott Hiltner and junior middle hitter Ron Sansom. After a strong showing by both JV and Varsity during their scrimmages at ACIT on Tuesday, the program is looking forward to getting the season underway.

After spending almost two years roosting in the nest, the Eagles finally took flight on Wednesday against the Blue Devils from Hammonton. We struggled through the typical rain and wind of the Emerald Links in losing by a final score of 204-168. Our young convocation was lead by our only returning varsity player, senior Katrina Cabinian, who shot a 43. Junior Charlie Jones (47) and freshmen Johnny Neveling (57) and Jake Barnhart (57) rounded out the scoring. The Eagles will spend the weekend tending to their wounds before three big matches next week.

Varsity Girls Softball has had 3 scrimmages thus far and have won 2 and tied 1.

We beat Cedar Creek 16-3 in our first scrimmage. We had lots of contributions offensively including a 3 run homerun by sophomore Madison Biddle and a double to the fence by freshman Sienna Walterson. Each pitcher (Haley Korsak, Madison Dollard, and Jill Sweeny) that threw in the game had 2 strikeouts and allowed only 1 unearned run a piece.

We won our second scrimmage against Buena 7-3. After giving up 3 runs in the top of the first, we held them scoreless the remainder of the game and fought back. Getting one run back in the bottom of the first after an RBI single by Delaney Sullivan that scored Madison Biddle. Our second run came from a double by freshman Kiki Schlemo scoring sophomore Shelby Parker. We had our breakout inning in the bottom of the 6th. The inning started with a double by Delaney Sullivan followed by an RBI triple by Sienna Walterson. Ryley Martini walked and had a stolen base followed by Kayla Dollard who hit a single. Jessie Alkins then hit a bases clearing triple scoring 2 runs. Peyton Colbert followed Alkins with an RBI single. Madison Dollard scored a final run in the bottom of the 7th after she walked, stole a base, and scored following an error. Madison Dollard had 8 strikeouts in 3 innings of work and Haley Korsak had 5 strikeouts in 4 innings of work.

We tied Kingsway 1-1, which is the team to beat in South Jersey, in our latest scrimmage. We threatened in the first inning with back to back base hits by Kayla Dollard and Natalia Stewart, but a base running error cost us a run. Sienna Walterson scored on lone run on a FC by Ryley Martini in the bottom of the second for our lone run of the game. Haley Korsak gave up 1 run run on 4 hits in 7 innings of work. She had 6 strikeouts on the day and had a great performance.
