Parent Peek at the Week
Week of November 11th, 2019
In case you missed it.....
Mrs. Hansen's Grade 1's were busy learning about the number "45" this week. Zero the Hero even stopped by a few days before! Check out their amazing strategies to count - tallies, number lines, hundreds charts....WOW!
Ms. Bartlett/Ms. Jones Kindergarten students and Ms. Baker's Grade 6's spent some quality "math buddy" time together this week. They went on a scavenger hunt of the school to find as many 3D solids as they could. Math buddies - what a GREAT idea!
This week classes learned about the importance of Remembrance Day and also created several beautiful art projects. This is just one example from Mrs. Rutherford's Grade 1 students.

Some important information for this week....
On Monday, November 11th we will be honouring those who have fought for our freedom. Students in Grade 4/5, 5 and 6 will be going to the Peterborough Cenotaph. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3/4 will attend a Remembrance Day Assembly and recognize 2 minutes of silence at 11am. Parents are welcome to join us for the assembly which will begin at 9:45am. The Legion has kindly donated poppies for each of our students. Donations are gladly accepted for the poppies, which we will then deliver to the Legion.
There are only a few days left to get in on our School Council Poinsettia fundraiser! All orders are due to the office by the end of the day on Wednesday, November 13th. Please contact the office if you would like an extra order form.
Under One Sun
School Council's Under One Sun Ornament Fundraiser is also underway. Please stop by the school and take a minute to look at the beautiful ornaments that have been displayed in our front display cabinet. All orders can be completed online at: https://u1sornaments.ca/products/kawartha-heights-public-school This fundraiser will continue until November 21st. Don't miss out!
Winter Weather is Here!
Just a reminder that now that the cold weather has arrived, snowpants, boots, coats, hats and mitts are a must at recess. If you child tends to play hard in the snow, it also doesn't hurt to send in an extra pair of mittens (when the morning mitts are all wet for afternoon recess!). Unless it's colder than -25 we go out every day, so we appreciate that students come prepared to play outside and enjoy this wonderful Canadian weather :)
Lost and Found
Lost and found items are property of the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board until such time that they are claimed by their owner, or; In the event that items remain unclaimed, it is encouraged that these items are either kept in the school for students to use as approved by the principal or that these items are donated to local organizations and determined by the principal. We'll display items monthly for students to come and find lost items..... I'll also try to post pictures on Twitter and Instagram so you can help your child to identify any missing items.
Progress Reports and Parent/Teacher Interviews
All families should have received the Key Learning document (Kindergarten) or Progress Report (Grades 1 - 6) this past Friday, along with your scheduled interview time. A gentle reminder that at this point of the year, we are providing a "snap shot" of how your child is progressing - not a grade or final evaluation (this is done in February and June). We look forward to meeting with you over the next few weeks to discuss strengths and next steps in more detail. If for any reason you cannot make your scheduled interview time, please contact your child's teacher or leave a message at the school office.
