REPORT CARD GUIDANCE FOR FAMILIES
Our quarter ends on Friday 10/9. Report cards will be available on Thursday 10/15. You can view your student’s report card by logging into Skyward Family Access, opening the portfolio section, and opening your PDF. This year is a bit different for us as we navigate Quarter 1 assessments.
- Quarter 1 represents skills or concepts that are introduced or marked at the introductory level. These concepts will be further developed over the course of the year.
- Any area indicators left blank have not yet been assessed. These will be assessed in quarters 2, 3 and 4.
- The Learner Characteristics section of the report card represents personal work habits or social skills. We have not yet assessed most of these as students have been learning virtually for a portion of our first quarter.
- Science and social studies indicators are not marked for the first semester as our focus towards assessment from spring into this winter will be on reading, writing and math. Science and social studies concepts are certainly integrated into our core subject areas. However, the assessment of science and social studies will be noted in our second semester.
- Our related arts classes will be using a participation grading scale. This will be marked at the semester.
Attendance Update - Please Note
- In-person students who miss a day at school are absent. Please contact the Main Office with a reason for the absence. Thank you!
- Virtual students who miss Zoom are marked absent until they complete the missed work according to the teacher's expectations.
- Students who are quarantined or otherwise required to stay home are strongly encouraged to participate in virtual learning to keep up with missed work.
- Students who are absent for reasons other than quarantine may participate in virtual learning to keep up with missed classwork, but participating in virtual lessons does not replace in-person attendance for in-person students.
- Quarantine absences are not counted in a student's total absences. If your student isn't feeling well, please keep them home and contact the school.
Doctor's Notes and Test Results
We appreciate receiving doctor's notes!
When in doubt, go ahead and send a doctor's note or test results to the office with your student, email a picture of the note to Mrs. Jones, attendance secretary, at azjones@hse.k12.in.us, bring the note to us in the Main Office, or fax it to 317-915-4279.
Thank you very much!

Masks are Required for Every Student, Every Day
- Please send your child to school in a clean mask every day.
- Please put a spare mask or two in your child's backpack. Masks get sweaty at recess or during gym, and kids sometimes need a clean mask during the day.
- Students who arrive without a mask are given a disposable mask they must use all day.
- A breakaway lanyard is suggested to keep track of masks during lunch and recess.
- Breakaway lanyards are also available in the Main Office.
- Please launder your mask every day, after every use.
Buses and Transportation
Students must ride their assigned bus home.
- Bus seats are assigned to enable contact tracing.
- Riding home with friends is not permitted at this time.
- If you would like to add bus transportation, call the Main Office at 317-915-4270.
Accidents Happen. Help your Student Be Prepared
- Please send a complete change of clothes (including underclothes and socks) plus shoes in your child's backpack.
- As the weather changes, students sometimes get muddy on the playground.
- Accidents and spills happen frequently at school, so extra clothes are a big help.

Snack Attack
Sand Creek Elementary is pleased to announce the Snack Attack program for those students in need. This program, supported by the Fishers Youth Assistance Program, is designed to provide students a little extra nourishment for the weekend until they can receive a hot meal at school.
Here's how the program works:
- Your student will pick up a small sack of food to be taken home. The sack is filled with individually wrapped snacks such as granola bars, fruit cups, pop tarts, peanut butter/crackers, Goldfish crackers, etc.
- The type of snacks will vary each week.
Please let us know if your child has a peanut allergy
as he/she will receive a special bag of peanut-free snacks.
- There is no cost to you or the school.
- The program starts after Labor Day.
- Your student will receive their Snack Attack sack on one of their in-person days during Phase 2.
If you are interested in having your student participate in FYAP's Snack Attack or have questions, please contact Jennifer Jacks, School Counselor at jjacks@hse.k12.in.us or 317-915-4270.
Book Fair Details
Did you know that at SCE we do not charge students for lost or damaged books?
The library earns money during a book fair that is spent on new books and replacing books so that all our students can have access to new, popular, and diverse literature. We also purchase teacher and student requests.
Unfortunately, I currently have way more books in my cart than I have funds to pay for. I could really use your help promoting the book fair.
