Exploring New Worlds - Keep on Roaring!
A Message from the Principal
Dear HSS Parents and Guardians,
We'd like to offer an additional program for our students called Saturday Technology Sessions. This offering will provide access for our students that don't have internet access at home or limited time to access their academic software programs outside of school. This additional offering would allow our students the time to focus on subject areas where they are weak or just need a little extra time to participate. Our academic software focus will include the following
* Language Arts/Reading Software: myON, iRead.
* Math: Sumdog, Reasoning Mind, ALEKS
We would like to use this opportunity to enhance the academic strengths of our students through the technology resources they should be familiar with during their school day. Additional software focused resources may be added as needed based on the needs of the students.
The Saturday Technology Sessions will begin on October 28th from 8:30am-12:15pm. All students that will participate in any of the Saturday sessions will need to be picked up no later than 12:15pm. If you would like for your student to participate, please click on the link below and fill out the interest form.
As a reminder, there will be a Parent Software Tutorial this Friday, October 20th from 4-5pm. We would like to provide a visual for our parents to view the academic software that our students access as well as tutorials on Skyward.
Thank you,
Mr. Mehmet Subas, M.Ed.
Principal | Harmony School of Science - Austin

A Message from Your Dean of Students
As we continue through the month of October recognizing Bullying Prevention Month, we'd like to continue to encourage responsible behavior. We started the month off by recognizing Go Blue Day. Students and staff were invited to wear blue shirts to show their support of this important initiative. Next, we had a special presentation, "Don't Be a Monster"! which gave a close look into the life of a student being mis-treated for being different.
For the remainder of the month we'd like to encourage our students to continue their participation with the following activities:
The Week of October 9th - Make friends with someone new at school.
The Week of October 16th - Stand up for others week...be an Upstander not a Bystander
The Week of October 23rd - Week of inclusion: don't let anyone at school eat alone in the cafeteria or play alone on the playground.
The week of October 30th - start the week with conversations with your peers and meet about how you can change the culture at your school.
Mrs. Michelle Hanvey
Dean of Students

Engagement
A Message from Your Engagement Coordinator!
As we get closer to our date for Parent Teacher Conferences, I wanted to share information that may be helpful to our families. According to a recent family guide, there are 5 ways to build a parent-teacher relationship:
- Make Contact - attend open house, conferences, volunteer and 1-2 special campus programs. When you are in your child's classroom and school environment, you will feel more connected.
- Know Your child's Strengths and Weaknesses - when you know your child's strengths and weaknesses, inform the teacher so they are able to enhance the strengths and encourage different ways to strengthen the weak areas.
- Show You Care - send in a thank you note to your child's teacher to let them know that you appreciate them going the extra mile for your student.
- Be a Partner - when your child is going through an illness or stressful situation, let the teacher know. It's important for the teacher to be able to keep the student on track in the classroom.
- Listen - be open to suggestions provided by your child's teacher. Children at times are different at home than they are at school. It's important to listen to your child but also the teacher as they spend a substantial amount of time together at school. Parents and teachers working together proves to be a partnership that benefits the students.

Thank you Dads!
