The Riviera Press
Issue 3: Week of November 16-20
Be Smart, Be Healthy, Be Hip!
Last Thursday and Friday, the Riviera HIP program began! It was so exciting for the Peer Health Educators to start teaching the ninth graders. The PHEs went to the ninth grade study halls, virtually and physically, so the ninth grade students did not have to miss any classes. They provided an introduction to HIP and discussed COVID-19 safety tips, how to get a restful sleep, and where to get help in our school. The next sessions are November 30 and December 1, so freshmen - mark your calendars! Please follow the HIP Instagram @hipriviera for updates and various mental and physical health tips. Remember to visit behip.org for helpful information about the program or resources in the Miami area. The PHEs are looking forward to teaching module two soon!

Clubs at the Riv
This week, club meetings officially started. Due to the pandemic, many of the usual clubs are not being offered this year. On the bright side, Riviera has adjusted the list and will still be providing a variety of options, including Bulldog Gaming Club, Drumline, Geography Club, Key Club, Marine Conservation Club, and Website Resources and Programming Club. These clubs allow students to get involved in the community and strengthen their interests. Members meet regularly via Zoom and on campus. Make sure to check out the schedule below and join a club that might fit your interests.

Ingenious Bulldogs with Mrs. Giganti's AP Euro
Mrs. Giganti adds a twenty-first century twist to her AP European History course. She is known for guiding her students through various ways of learning complex topics in her history courses so that the classroom environment is always creative and enticing. During the week of November 16 - November 20, students in this class presented their Twitter projects where they created a Twitter thread to creatively describe a European war of their choice from a list provided by Mrs. Giganti. Students were able to create Twitter threads from the perspective of these historical people and alliances. Below are images of Natalia Guedes’ and Zabrina Sanchez’s Twitter project on the Balance of Power in the War of Spanish Succession.

Inside the Art Studio
This week in Ms. Parker's Honors Art class, student Monica Canas created a fantastic chalk pastel pumpkin by using combinations of complementary colors, orange and blue, to show form and cast shadows. Her main tools were her fingers, which were used to distribute and blend the chalk on the organically torn edges of brown craft paper. Below you will find two pictures. The first displays the process she went through to create her pumpkin, and the second one is her fabulous finished pumpkin "Autumn Light."
