Principal's Corner
Good evening,
This week our students will take the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) test in the areas of Math and Reading. MAP testing will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday. This adaptive assessment is used to inform teachers of each student’s ability in multiple areas and to help us monitor student growth over time. The data provided by MAP assessments also gives our teachers information that is used for planning lessons to meet the unique instructional needs of each student.
Although the MAP test is not an assessment that you can prepare for by studying, there are a few things that parents can do to help ensure that students are prepared and ready for testing. Please make certain that your child is on time to school, well rested, and has eaten a good breakfast each day they test. Thank you in advance for your support and assistance as we work together to help ensure the success of our students. Let’s have a great week.
Respectfully,
Dr. G. Marek Marshall
Principal

We will be starting up our monthly GEMS (Girls in Engineering Math and Science) meeting this week. Our partners at Duke Energy will be on campus on the morning of Thursday, September 21 during Enrichment to do an activity with our females. There are limited spots available to participate. A sign up will go out in Canvas on Wednesday for any female student who would like to sign up. The next GEMS meeting with Duke will be on October 19.
Counselors will be coming into classrooms for classroom guidance lessons. They will also be doing minute meetings, check-ins with individual students.
Remember that your STMS Counselors are here to support students’ academic, social/emotional, and career needs.
