Wade King Elementary

August Update - August 20th, 2021

A Note from the Principal

Hello Wade King Families,

I hope your summer has been filled with things that bring your family joy. I also hope that your child is getting excited to start a new school year. Our office team is registering new families and ordering materials to be ready for the school year. Our custodial team has spent the summer cleaning our building and our teaching team is starting to set up their classrooms. The Wade King PTA is gearing up to welcome families and partner with our school and community to provide opportunities for connection and plan learning experiences for our students, including the addition of school garden. We're feeling excited to welcome your family back and begin a new year with your child(ren).

The information below should answer many of the questions you have about our upcoming school year, but don't hesitate to connect with me or with Debbie McMeel, in our office, if you have other questions. She is in the office between 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:30-3:30pm if you want to come in. You can also call her at (360) 647-6840 ext. 2. We are here to support you any way we can.

Here’s to an AMAZING 2021-22 school year, filled with strong learning experiences for our children, strong partnerships with families, and lots of JOY for all.

See you soon!

Stephanie Johnson, Principal

Meet and Greet... Re-Envisioned

We had planned to have a more traditional Meet and Greet on Tuesday, August 31st. With changes in COVID-19 case numbers within our community in the last few weeks, our staff is re-envisioning Meet and Greet. We want our families to be able to connect their child's new teacher and we want to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 transmission within our community. We'll send you more information about this by the middle of next week... and appreciate your patience!

Who Will My Teacher Be?

We imagine that you and your child are curious to find which teacher(s) your family will be working with next year... and your new teachers are excited to meet you! Families of 1st-5th graders will receive an email next Friday, August 27th, introducing them to their new teacher.

A More Normal School Year...

As of today, our intent is to return to the school day schedule we had prior to COVID-19.

Students may arrive at school between 7:30am-8:00am.

The school day will be from 8:00am-2:30pm, with the exception of our Thursday early release when the student day will end at 12:45pm.

The first early release day for 1st-5th grade students is on September 9th.

Kindergarten students only will have a shorter day on Thursday, September 2nd and Friday, September 3rd, when their day will end at 12:30pm.

Health & Safety

All Screening All the Time

As students return to school, we are asking families to continue to be diligent in screening their children for symptoms all the time... and keeping their children home if they aren't well.

As we return to school, all adults and children will wear masks while they are in the school building. We will be able to take mask breaks when we are outside. If your child has not needed to wear a mask this summer, you might have them spend time wearing a mask to build their stamina before school starts.

We will continue to teach handwashing skills and encourage frequent handwashing throughout the day.

We know what to do to keep our school community safe!

New Students?

If you have had a new family move into your neighborhood this summer, please let them know about our school, share our contact information, and encourage them to register if they haven't already. Debbie McMeel, in our school office, would love to support them in completing our online registration if needed.

Thank You!

Medications at School

If your child needs medication at school, please bring the medication in the original container along with the Bellingham Public Schools Medication Form signed by your physician. Only adults can bring in medication and it must be checked in at the office. You are welcome to bring in medications starting Monday, August 23rd. Our office hours are 9:00am-noon and 1:30pm-3:30pm. If you need an appointment with Alyssa Johnson, our school nurse, you can email her or call the school office.

Ways to Help Our PTA Earn Money... that comes right back to supporting our kids!

Link to Amazon Smile

If you are an Amazon user, you can set up Amazon Smile to link to our Wade King PTA. A percentage of what you spend will come right back to our PTA to support school events.
Did you know Box Tops for Education has an ap? No longer do you need to clip Box Tops to turn in. Join for free... and simply scan your receipts to earn money for our PTA. It's that easy!
Big picture

Another way to help our PTA earn money is by linking your Fred Meyers Reward card to Wade King PTA 8.3.37. A percentage of your spending goes right back to our PTA and it does not impact your other rewards.
