The Benefits of Oil Pulling
Experience dōTERRA Health
The Background
Oil Pulling is a safe, simple and gentle way to bring health to your mouth, ridding it of toxins and bacteria that turn into gingivitis and eventually full-blown gum disease. There are many who claim that it can cure and prevent disease, even extending life!
Oil pulling is gaining popularity because people are having positive results with it. The basics of oil pulling involve swishing around 1 to 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, olive oil or any other quality oil around in your mouth for 20 minutes then spitting it out, you never want to swallow it! It's a simple therapy and completely harmless...no ingesting of medication, just a thorough cleaning of mouth by oil.
Oil Pulling was practiced in Ayurvedic medicine evolved in India and is thought to be the oldest healthcare system on earth. Modern science is suggesting that advanced gum disease can be linked to diabetes, cardiovascular problems and pre-term births. There are studies underway exploring the connection between good oral health and overall health. Much of the bacteria we come in contact with enters through our mouth. Oil pulling removes toxins, bacteria and microorganisms that can cause disease and health issues. From what I understand microorganisms in the mouth are single cell with an outside layer of fatty membrane. When you swish oil in your mouth the fatty membrane is attracted to the oil therefore, toxins and bacteria hiding in gums and tissue are sucked out during the 20 minute oil pull. This is why you never want to swallow the end result...please spit it out in the trash!
One of the most common testimonials is whiter teeth!
Others claim benefits such as these: reduced joint pain, opening of congested sinuses, skin disorders like eczema disappear, healing of chronic inflammation, heart disease (science ties poor oral health to heart disease and diabetes) and of course, gum disease and strengthening of loose teeth!
How do you Oil Pull?
It's suggested that an oil pull be done first thing in the morning before you eat breakfast.
All you need is a high quality vegetable based oil. I experimented with two different coconut oils: my choice and favorite oil is Tropical Traditions Gold Label...that I use in EVERYTHING, including the Salve’s that I make. They run specials every month and my favorite is buy a Gallon and get one FREE!
Some Sage EO users have a suggested recipe that calls for 2 drops of Oregano and 2 drops of Clove along with 1 T of Coconut Oil. I happen to prefer 2 drops each of On Guard Protective Blend and Melaleuca instead. Two drops in two tablespoons of coconut oil makes for a smooth and slightly spicy oil pull, it's nice, it's anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and slows gum recession, awesome...just awesome!
Okay, let's get down to the nitty gritty...here's some ideas for specific oils to use when dealing with specific ailments.

Directions
Take the oils into the mouth but don't swallow it. Move the oils slowly in the mouth. Sip, suck and pull through the teeth and under the tongue for 20 minutes. Some people need to work up to this, I did it from the get go...just stay busy! You want to thoroughly mix the oils with your saliva. Swishing activates the enzymes and the enzymes draw toxins out of the blood. As the process continues, the oil gets thinner and white. When you're all done, spit the oil out into the garbage...do not swallow as it's full of toxins now. Brush teeth with toothpaste.
During the oil pull the metabolism intensifies...which leads to improved health. Very common to see loose teeth fit tighter, sores healed and a visible whitening of teeth!
I'm sold on oil pulling! It's easy, it's economical and you don't have to say anything in 20 minutes! My mouth felt cleaner and my teeth felt like I had just come from the dentist!
I encourage you to do your own due diligence on oil pulling, it's a fascinating study in alternative health care.
Let's Talk Coconut Oil~ A Healthy Convenience
I use so much coconut oil daily that I buy it by the gallon. I fill a few small mason jars and keep them around the house but, the routine isn't exactly convenient. Inevitably, honey, jam or oatmeal gets in the kitchen coconut oil jar (breakfast), and because I never seem to have a spoon in the bathroom, I end up sticking my finger in the jar for a little oil pulling. Coconut Dots to the rescue!
This little tutorial will be short and sweet because there's nothing to this! I make small batches Coconut Dots with softened coconut oil, and my favorite brand is Tropical Traditions!
Here we Go!
Here we Go!
2 cups coconut oil ~ softened.
Whip or whisk to get most of the lumps out - as smooth as you can get it without beating it to death :)
I can get away with whisking it for a few minutes.
Scoop the soft coconut oil into a large ziploc plastic bag, this is your makeshift pastry bag!
Twist the bag enough to get all the coconut oil down into one corner.
Keep hold of the twisted section with one had and snip off 1/4" at an angle from the tip of the corner with a pair of scissors.
Time to make Coconut Dots
Time to Make Coconut Dots!
Cover a cookie sheet with foil, squeeze your desired size dots ~ they don't have to be perfect but shoot for the soft-serve ice cream cone technique, this will keep your dots compact.
Slide the cookie sheet into the freezer for 5 minutes.
Remove and pop off the dots, toss into a cold mason jar!
The Coconut Dots need to be stored in the refrigerator unless you live in an igloo :)
