Message from Dr. Fay & Mrs. Henson
Dear Crossroads Community,
A few days ago we announced our 2021-2022 Crossroads Support Staff of the Year. We are blessed to have a strong, caring group of support staff who take great care of our students each and every day. This year our candidates included Gina West, Kelly Fisher and Katie Zink. Each of them are special education instructional assistants. Here are a few excerpts of what our staff had to say about each of them:
Gina West: Gina's positive, happy personality helps all of her students and co-workers feel loved, accepted, and joyful! She works hard for kids and is always a team player!
Kelly Fisher: Kelly is amazing at what she does for all staff and students! She goes above and beyond for everyone. She makes sure to include all students in what she does. Also, she helps her team and any of our other staff members out when she notices they need help.
Katie Zink: Katie is such a joy to work closely with, and her passion towards the children is admirable. She works so hard and gives way above and beyond what is expected of her!
Please help us with congratulations to all of our amazing candidates. Our 2021-2022 Crossroads Support Staff of the Year is: Kelly Fisher! Congratulations, Kelly!
Have a great April!

Raptor Security System Information
Part of keeping students and staff safe is knowing who is in our building at all times, so we are rolling out a system to allow us to do just that. Starting January 24, 2022, WSD visitors will check in to our buildings using Raptor, a new visitor management system designed to assist with building security.
What does that mean for you?
When you arrive in a WSD building as a visitor, you will be asked to scan your ID, take a photo and complete the management system’s check-in process.
Raptor will screen the information against sex offender databases and locally customized lists of banned or potentially threatening individuals, instantly alert school officials to a threatening presence, and maintain a searchable log of all visitors.
Once approved, you will get a customized visitor badge to wear while in the building.
Thank you for your support as we roll this out and enhance school safety protocols!
Parents or guardians who are only picking up a child for the day will not need to use the visitor management system.
Arrival and Dismissal - Please Read Carefully
All of our car riders and our daycare van riders will go to the gym at the end of the day. Once in the gym, a staff member will call students’ names over the radio for them to come out to meet their vehicle. A staff member will escort students to each car.
PLEASE READ: We are no longer allowing parents to walk up to get their children. You will need to drive through the pick-up line.
We sent home lime green car tags with all students on their first day of school, 8/24. If you need additional tags, please check in the main office. ***PLEASE USE A THICK MARKER TO FILL THESE OUT***
When you drive through the car lanes, please have the lime green car tag on your dashboard where we can see the names of your students. If you do not have the car tag, we will have to check your ID, radio the office, and wait for them to clear you before we can call your child out. As you can imagine, this will slow down the process for everyone.
A few other things to keep in mind with this process: Please remember, we do not accept dismissal changes after 3:00 pm. Also, our primary focus is student safety and 3:20 is a critical time when children can potentially get lost in the shuffle; it is imperative that we streamline the secretaries’ time to focus only on emergencies that arise. With that in mind, please understand that we will not permit access to the office after 3:20 to check out a student. Please plan accordingly so we aren’t caught in the position to have to tell you no. Also, remember that you are responsible for calling in to change if your walker will become a car rider during the days with inclement weather. We will no longer be sending a text about rainy day dismissals.
If you have any questions or thoughts, please let us know.
Please review our arrival and dismissal maps below:

Great news! Crossroads has partnered with Smile Programs, the mobile dentists to offer in-school dental care. Sign up your child today by clicking this link. You can also use the QR code below to take you to the link.
Even better, dental care is usually at no cost to you. All insurance is accepted including Medicaid and CHIP. For those without insurance, a low cost self-pay option is available.
Convenient and comfortable
Our in-school dental program saves you time and provides a safe and comfortable place for your child to receive gentle dental care from licensed local professionals. Dental care includes a complete dental exam, x-rays, cleaning, fluoride and sealants when necessary, and in some cases, restorative care such as fillings.
Dental care for a healthy life
Children who see a dentist regularly may have fewer health issues like:
Early tooth loss caused by dental decay
Gum disease
Heart disease
Impaired speech development
Help keep your child healthy, in school and learning. Simply sign up at https://www.myschooldentist.com/CEWRMO_schsrm before April 20.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at amandawhiteaker@wsdr4.org.

PTA Update!
PTA Update
Hi Corgis!
Thank you to everyone who supported our Sugarfire dining night last month. It was a delicious success! We hope to see you for our next dining event on April 14 from 9:00am – 10:00pm. We are partnering with Oberweis Ice Cream & Dairy Store, That Burger Joint and Woodgrain Neapolitan Pizzeria for our next event. You can visit any, or all, of the restaurants, all day long, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Crossroads. As we know, Crossroads families turn out in big numbers for these events so the restaurants do ask that if you plan to go, you rsvp at the link below so that they can adequately prepare. It’s easy and only takes a moment.

Thank you to everyone who supported us during the Book Fair! It was wonderful to see how excited the kids got about new books. We couldn’t have made it all happen without all of the fantastic volunteers who helped with working the book fair as well as set up and tear down. Thank you for all of your efforts! A special thank you to Katie Merrill for coordinating the event!
Last month we also hosted an online forum for the candidates. All were invited and four attended to share their views on a variety of topics. You can watch the video from the event on our Facebook page. Don’t forget to vote in the school board election on April 5. You can learn more about all of the candidates on the district website.
Let’s Party Like It’s 2002!
A lot has changed since 2002 but one thing has stayed the same. Crossroads is an amazing place for our kids to learn and grow. And we think that deserves a party. Please join us to celebrate Crossroads 20th Anniversary at a fabulous event on April 23 11am-3pm. We'll have live music, carnival games and activities, prizes, food trucks, special guests and some blasts from the past. It's a Corgi Carnival so you know it's going to be fun!
If you would like to be a part of the process, please let us know! We could use a lot of help over the coming weeks to put this thing together, and even more help on the day of the event. Your efforts will be much appreciated and give your Crossroads student(s) solid bragging rights. We will send emails separately with sign up links to volunteer closer to the event but in the meantime, if you are interested in helping us plan, please reach out to corgipta@gmail.com.
Stay tuned, we’ve got lots of fun events coming up!

You Shop, The School Gets Paid!
Did you know that when you shop on Amazon, it’s easy for Crossroads to get a small percentage from your purchase? All you have to do is shop through AmazonSmile instead of Amazon. Once you’ve set up your account, your shopping experience will be identical. The difference is that when you shop on AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price of eligible products to the charitable organization of your choice. Crossroads Elementary PTA would be grateful to be the charity you choose. Go to smile.amazon.com to get started. Once you’ve set this up, it’s easy to set up your Amazon app to link to AmazonSmile as well.
