The Ririe Report
4-8-2019
Perspective
My focus has been, and always will be, on helping my kids discover the joy of learning. I've tried to help them realize that just because something is hard it does not mean they are dumb. I constantly tell them that we actually learn more when we get something wrong than when the answer comes easily to us, as Sir Edmund Hillary once said, "There is little virtue in an easy victory".
Yesterday I ran into a former student named David, he works at Kohls and is going to U of H right now. He said, "I remember you always had the phrase, 'If you are not struggling, you are not learning', written on the board. Mrs. Ririe, I've used that phrase a lot during my hard classes". I had to fight back tears.
My students are not defined by a score; no test will ever be able to measure their effort, tenacity, moments of brilliance, hard work, and determination.
I love your children, and feel blessed to be their teacher.
