Fifth Grade AIM
Today in AIM
Today my AIM friends had some difficult decisions to make β save or spend? After calculating their second pay check and paying their expenses, they were able to shop in the MORE store for the first time this year. To calculate their pay check they each started with a base pay of $25 per class and then added a bonus depending on their grade in that particular class. I conferenced with each student to discuss strategies for improving salaries etc., itβs important for them to understand that missed or late assignments do impact grades. Each student paid a 15% tax on their gross income and deposited the rest into the bank before they could shop! They were a little shocked that the prices were so high so they were faced with the dilemma of buying some small things or saving for the big stuff. It was so fun to see them work through the decision making process.
Next we completed a big review of what we had covered last week (events leading up to the war) regarding the Civil War in a friendly group competition.
Right before lunch we brainstormed our golf course project and developed some really creative ideas for presenting them during World Culture Day.
With our last 30 minutes Xavier shared with us his passion for the Stock Market!
