Urgent Message Regarding Owl Drop Off

We have had many issues during the morning drop over past two weeks. PLEASE adhere to the following procedures to ensure the safety of our students, parents and staff:

1. NO CELL PHONE USE-we had a staff member nearly hit last week by a driver who appeared to be texting while driving through the parking lot.

2. If waiting at the curb at 7:55 am, students MUST exist the car at that time. It important to begin the unloading process at 7:55 am to ensure all students using the drop off, enter the building by 8:05 am. We have added at an outside bell at 7:55 am. Students are welcomed into the building at 8:00 am.

3. Turning left out of the parking is VERY difficult in the morning. We urge drivers to consider turning right. PLEASE DO NOT block the drop off lane waiting to merge into the left lane.

Returning to school for forgotten items...

Our goal is to foster responsible behavior in our students. If your child fails to bring home books or materials needed for homework assignments, please do not bring him or her back to school without first contacting the teacher or principal for advice. Encourage your child to do some problem solving: they could call a friend, check the class website or other internet resources. To ensure the safety and security of the students in Prime Time, the staff is not able to allow parents/students into the building though the Prime Time doors. Finally, we have one custodian who is responsible for cleaning and preparing the building for the next school day. Please sensitive to their work responsibilities and do not ask them to unlock classroom doors.

Looking Ahead: Parent/Teacher Conferences

Elementary Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Thursday, December 13th. This will be an adjusted 1/2 day for students: Dismissal will be at 10:18. Conferences will be held from 11:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Parents/Caregivers will sign up using the Online Parent Teacher Conference Sign Up in Family Access. The Conference sign up option will be available the week of November 19th. More information, including directions and video tutorials will be provide in the coming weeks.

The Power of Kindness

Dale Atkins PhD & Amanda Salzhauer (MSW) speak of the The fundamentals of kindness in their book: The Kindness Advantage (Cultivating Compassionate and Connected Children) Those fundamentals are:

  • Acceptance
  • Commitment
  • Connection
  • Empathy
  • Giving
  • Interest
  • Nurturing
  • Observing
  • Questioning
  • (Be) Yourself

Children greatly benefit from being nurtured and learning to nurture themselves. We can model how we nurture ourselves by being physically active, getting enough sleep and having quite time or down time. By being nurtured and nurturing oneself, we find nurturing others purposeful and benefit from the positive effect it has on us.

Everyday, simple kindnesses are at the core of well-nurtured relationships. Here are some simple everyday acts of kindness that nurture our soul and relationships with other:

1. Look someone in the eye as you say "hello"

2. Hold the door for someone entering the room behind you

3. Ask a friend how she is and LISTEN carefully to her answer

4. Smile and say hello to someone you see regularly

5. Offer a compliment to someone
