Welcome!

Hello, everyone and welcome to our first newsletter!

One of our goals this year is to increase communication between our PTA, teachers and parents and we thought a monthly newsletter would be a good place to share information. A private facebook group for discussions will be open soon and invites will be sent out shortly to those that we have emails for. We know not everyone can make it to the meetings, but we want you to have a voice!

How can I help?

There are so many opportunities to get involved. Here are just a few!

Volunteer Coordinator: Will communicate with the board members about volunteer needs and use the sign up genius account to coordinate volunteers.


Reflection Coordinator: This is an art contest through the PTA. The board will help you learn about the program (Or you can check it out here: http://pta.org/Reflections) We just need someone to promote this to the school, possibly creating flyers and bulletin boards as needed.


Fundraising team: We will have a database of businesses to contact for donations as well as request letters that you can use to get donations for our basket auction. We just need people to spread out and contact the businesses. You will be working with the fundraising chair, Lynette Thueson, as well as the board if you have any questions.


Are you a pinterest guru? Do you live to decorate for parties and make cute displays? We are always in need of help with various projects throughout the year!

A note from our President:

My Name is Brandi Huffman and I am this year’s PTA President. This is my first term on the PTA Board. I’m the proud mom to an 8th grader, 5th grader, and a 1stgrader. I have had a child (or two) at Spalding for the past 9 years. My kids stay busy with competitive dance teams, soccer, and Boy Scouts. Aside from being a mom (and taxi) I love doing my job as a preschool teacher. When I have spare time, I enjoy doing all things crafty, reading, watching movies, and just spending time with my family!

One of the reasons for taking on the Presidency this year was to be a part of the school my kids have known and love. While I’ve spent many hours volunteering at Spalding over the years, I wanted to be able to provide even more opportunities for my students as well as all of yours through the fostering of relationships between us, the parents, and the teachers who are caring for and helping to grow our children on a daily basis. The more we as parents can be involved in the school, the better the outlook is for our children's education and development. School districts just do not have the funding or the participation they did in the era of our school days. Therefore it is up to us to bridge the gap.

I understand many of you work full-time and others have financial constraints which limit your involvement, but neither of these should hinder you. The PTA is not looking only for hours of volunteering or monetary donations. We are looking for any support that is easily and readily available from you. If you are a crafty individual, we would love your input and help with signs and banners/decorations, etc. If you have knowledge on Board operations and ways to function more efficiently we welcome your help. Our Board is all new and we are looking to learn from other parents as well. Anything and everything you can bring to the table to make this an amazing year for our children is much appreciated.

Here are the scheduled meetings for the rest of the year. They will be held at 4:15 in the library and childcare will be provided in Mrs. Longpre's room!
