Wondering about those Wildcats 2021

Updates and information about our Silliman Wildcats

A Word from the Principal

Congratulations to our Silliman Girls Softball team for finishing the 2021 season as the MAIS South State Champions as well as the Overall State Runners-up. Our girls fell just short in the state finals by dropping the final game of the series to Brookhaven. We are very proud of Coach Trae Weaver and all of the girls on the team.

Last week our Boys Cross Country team finished as State Runners-up in the MAIS State Meet. They have shown vast improvement throughout the season and had many personal bests at the state meet. Congratulations to Coaches James Cupit and Kaylan Ledet for a job well done.

As we approach the Thanksgiving Break, there are several important dates that parents should be aware of:

  • Monday, November 7th ends the Daylight Savings Time and clocks should move back one hour.

  • Tuesday, November 9th is our Progress Reports date. Parents will be able to access their child’s progress report on Renweb.

  • Monday, November 29th is the first day of our annual Book Fair. This event will last throughout the week.

The students and parents must be aware that when we return from the Thanksgiving break we will have only one week of regular classes and tests before we begin “dead week,” then followed by Mid-Term Exams. Therefore, the next three weeks will have an immense impact on our second-quarter grades.

Elementary Homecoming Decorations

The elementary school had a door decorating contest to get into the spirit of Homecoming. Each door had its own theme.

Homecoming Pep Rally

We had a very fun pre-game pep-rally for homecoming this year. All of the student body came together and watched the festivities on the football field. We had a homecoming court presentation, amazing dance and cheer routines with both the Varsity and JV teams, Kitty Kat and Kitten shows, and Coach TJ who pumped up the student body and his football team. This year we even had a mock homecoming court, wher Layton Dousay was crowned.

Homecoming Court

The homecoming court consisted of 7 girls: Alainna Weaver, Kensley Lantrip, Jacie Stringer, Katherine Bauer, Sydney Vines, Sydney Miller, and Grace Bergeron. Escorts were Isaac Whittington, Matthew LeJeune, Zachary Caruso, Jared Shaffer, John David Clement, Jacob Stevens, and Chase Tucker. One student was crowned queen at the football game. The crown bearer and flower girl were Reid Hopkins and Kate Collins Michaelson. The crown was given to Katherine Bauer by the 2020 Homecoming Queen, McCaul Kelly. Congratulations, Katherine, for being SHS's 2021 Homecoming Queen.

Silliman celebrated the 2021 homecoming season with a rock-and-roll themed parade. Floats themed with guitars and instruments rolled down mainstreet as students and parents lined the streats for candy and prizes. Many of the students dressed to represent their favorite rock band. Of course, the highlight of the day was seeing the senior homecoming court dressed in their hats and suits waving to the rest of the school. It was a huge success.

Homecoming Dance

The Silliman Homecoming 2021 Dance took place at Barn Hill Preserve. The court was presented with their escorts. The Homecoming Court danced first with their escorts and then with their fathers. Grades 7-12 were invited to attend. The night was a beautiful, starlit evening and the attending students had fun hanging out and listening to music. - Caitlyn Baudoin

Congratulations to our Varsity Softball team for making it all the way to the MAIS State Softball Championship Game. The team played against Brookhaven Academy. Silliman lost the first game, won the second game and unfortunately had a loss in the final game. Silliman is the runner up for MAIS state softball and South State Champions. Congratulations!!

Football Friday Night

Varisty football came to an end Friday, October 22. The team has worked hard over the last 6 months getting stronger and more skilled. Their last 2 games were against Catheral and Copiah. Although the team came up short in their season, they played with pride and zeal. The Wildcat family is so proud of the hard work and dedication that the football team showed. A special thank you to all of the hours of dedication that the coaches and the support staff dedicated to the team- Thank you!

Varsity Cheer and Dance

As we close down the football season, a special thanks to the cheer and dance team for the hours of practice to put on all of the pep rallies, the half time shows and the spririt during the game. When we think of Friday Night Light's, cheer and dance and Willie, you are a huge part of that. Thank you!!

JV Football

The JV Football team enjoyed a win on their last game of the season against Copiah. The team has worked hard this year, learning new skill and conditioning to play in even the hottest weather. This team works hard and works well together. We expect big things in their future.

Correction from last month. Congratulations to the JV Dance Team - they took the MAIS State title in Jazz. Sorry for the oversight and congratulations for the huge accomplishment. The dance team also participated in the parade and the pep rally and Friday night festivities for Homecoming. - Bri Lamedola

Junior Varsity Cheer Team

The JV Cheer team presented St. Jude with a check for $1882.85 on Thursday, October 7th. Funds were raised through the GO GOLD for Childhood Cancer Fundraising event and Jambalaya sale. You can post this under cheer in section of the news letter. The cheer team also participated in the Homecoming Parade.

Cross Country

Cross Country went to Choctaw Trails to compete for MAIS State Cross Country Meet. Varsity boys were runners-up for State (2nd) and Natalie Payne placed 2nd in Junior Varsity. Nate Williams placed 8th overall in Varsity. The graduating seniors on the team are Owen McDaniel, Layton Dousay, and Wade Payne. Congratulations on a job well done. - Whitney Gros
