Kindergarten News
Carroll Elementary School
WELCOME!
We are looking forward to the Mother Goose program visiting Kindergarten next week!
Have a great week!
OUR LEARNING
Reading
We will be studying authors & characters while practicing our reading and talking about books. Continue to practice comprehension when reading at home. Teachers are also currently conducting end of year assessments.
Ways to help your child at home:
- Read daily with your child.
- Continue to practice comprehension of fiction text including retell, reflection (favorite part) & connections.
- Practice recognizing sight words.
- Read nonfiction books and notice the different text features. Practice reading to learn and then retelling some of the facts.
Writing
We are learning to write non-fiction, or All About Books. We will learn how authors group their non-fiction text and practice adding in features of non-fiction writing to our own books.
Ways to help your child at home:
- Practice recognizing or writing letters your child needs help with. Practice writing snap words as well.
- Encourage writing activities at home for your child. When they choose to write, help them use letter sounds to spell words.
- Practice writing your first and last name using correct capitalization.
- Practice using spaces between words in a sentence. Have your child use their finger to leave a space between words while writing at home.
Math
Ways to help your child at home:
- Practice counting to 100 (or as high as you can) by 1's.
- Play board games, card games, or dominoes that allow your child to have fun while using numbers and counting!
- Gather different sets of data and practice making picture or real object graphs at home. Try graphing different kinds of stuffed animals you have, or colors of flowers in your yard, just to name a few examples.
Science
We will wrap up our learning about plants and begin learning about different types of animals. We will learn to sort them by their characteristics.
Ways to help your child at home:
- Look for different types of plants in your home & yard.
- What sorts of things around your house come from plants?
- Plant a seed and give it the things in needs to survive. Watch it grow and change! You could even try an experiment and see what happens if you don't give a plant water or sunlight. Compare them to the seed that gets what it needs.
Social Studies
We will learn the difference between things we need and things we want. We will celebrate Earth Day!
Ways to help your child at home:
- Learn your address & phone number.
- Look for items around your house that are needs and wants. As a family, think of ways you might be able to help others get the things they need (food, water, clothing, etc.) Do you have items that can be donated?

Wake Up, CES!
Our morning announcements are called "Wake Up, CES!" They are viewed each morning through our Wake Up, CES YouTube channel.
It is getting close to Kindergarten's turn on morning announcements! Every morning the students hear the pledges, birthdays, special school announcements, and participate in some exercises to warm up their brains & bodies for a full day of learning. Each student will get a turn to participate on morning announcements based on the school's schedule. Your child's teacher will be in touch with more specific information before it is your child's turn to participate. On your child's day, you will want to make sure they are here by 7:30 so that they can practice before announcements go LIVE! You may watch your child participate by viewing the video on the Wake Up, CES YouTube channel later that morning. The link is below. We are looking forward to our turn on Wake Up, CES!
