NATIONAL HISTORY DAY WINNERS
Josh Karlin and Grant Trepanier won first place at Arizona’s State National History Day competition for their outstanding documentary (Walking through the Fires of Conflict: The Lost Boys of Sudan) in the high school division. Grant and Josh also received a $100.00 special award for the best research and bibliography for the High School Division. Additionally, Grant won the NHDAZ Leadership Legacy Award. The boys will travel to Washington DC this summer to represent Arizona in the national competition. Grant has started a fundraiser to try to pay for two of the Lost Boys to join them in DC. Congrats, Josh and Grant!
WINTERGUARD WINS CHAMPIONSHIP

FCCLA-ECE STUDENTS QUALIFY FOR NATIONALS

ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIPAWARD (RYLA) CAMP
Eleven CHS student leaders were chosen to attend the RYLA Ponderosa Camp in Heber from April 5th-8th. Students reinforced their leadership abilities and skills, utilized new methods, learned about their inner selves through a well-rounded exciting, stimulating and busy program. Students loved the experience and learned a lot! Congrats to Lester Cajas, Kyle Cook, Zackary Cox, Marianne Damacion, Caleb Dowdle, Russell Duffy, Holly Hoogstra, Connor Niles, Richardson Ortiz, Isaac Parra, and Luis Pena for being chosen to represent CHS!
ROTARY SPEECH CONTEST
Riley Whitt-Collins represented CHS in last week’s Sun Lakes Rotary Speech Contest and did a fantastic job convincing the judges and audience to apply the Rotary’s 4-Way Test while discussing politics. Well done, Riley!
CHS WELCOMES GERMAN STUDENTS
Thanks to our German teacher, Melanie Mello, and her work with the German American Partnership Program, CHS is very excited to host 14 German students and two teachers from Nagold, Germany for three weeks. After a long weekend, the German students could not wait for day one at Chandler High. They were welcomed by Mr. Rother, exchanged gifts, and toured CHS. Throughout their stay the German students and teachers will attend classes to learn about the American school system. Their impression of CHS so far is “It is awesome.” As part of their visit, the group will travel to the Grand Canyon, Flagstaff, and Sedona, and go bowling and play mini-golf together, among other things.
PARENT PRESENTATION TONIGHT
APRIL 11TH IB MYP PERSONAL PROJECT SHOWCASE
Over 100 10th grade students have completed the requirements for the IB Middle Years Program which include a Personal Project. We will be showcasing their projects all day on Wednesday, April 11th in the foyer of the CCA. Each of the inquiry-based projects falls under one of the IB MYP Global Contexts: Identities and Relationships; Orientation in Space and Time; Personal and Cultural Expression; Scientific and Technical Innovation; Globalization and Sustainability; Fairness and Development.
The showcase will continue in the evening beginning at 5:30pm followed by an MYP Completion Ceremony at 6pm in the Recital Hall. All IB MYP students who have completed the academic, service and project components of the MYP will be receiving a CHS Academic Letter. Parents and community members are invited to join us in recognizing these students for their work above and beyond the minimum requirements.

CHS StuCo is proud to present this year’s Prom, The Great Gatsby, this Saturday, April 14th, from 8:00-11:00 pm at Villa Sienna in Gilbert. Tickets are now on sale for $55 but will increase to $60 on Thursday. All fees must be paid in the bookstore in order for a student to purchase a prom ticket. Because reminder announcements were not made last week due to testing, prom guest passes will be accepted until 3:30 on Tuesday, April 10th.

Applications for the Maricopa Grant are due by:

Final Deadline: Friday, August 31st
Don't miss the deadline and miss your chance to be awarded tuition for your dual enrollment classes! Funds are awarded on a first-come first-serve basis and eligibility is based on financial need. If you don't apply now and decide this fall to take a dual enrollment class, the funds may be gone.
There is no commitment to register for classes if your plans change in the fall, but applying now allows you to determine your eligibility and become pre-qualified for funding.
Students must apply now to receive tuition assistance for the dual classes they plan on taking in the 2018-2019 school year. Please refer to the Tuition Assistance link on our website for more information and access to a packet which includes: an informational cover sheet and application. Please be sure to follow the directions carefully as incomplete applications cannot be processed.

SOFTBALL FUNDRAISER
Show your team spirit by joining us for a fundraiser to support Chandler High Softball. Come in to the Chipotle at 3395 W. Chandler Blvd Suite 1 in Chandler on Monday, April 9th between 5:00-9:00pm. Bring in this flyer, show it on your smartphone or tell the cashier you’re supporting the cause to make sure that 50% of the proceeds are donated the Chandler High Softball.

Chandler High Tennis will be having a fundraising event at IHOP on April 12, 2018, from 5:30-8:00 p.m. at 3788 S. Chandler Avenue. Mention Chandler High Tennis and 20% will be given back to the team. Thank you for your support!
PARENT AND TEEN NIGHT- TOPIC: SUICIDE PREVENTION
You don't want to miss Tuesday's (April 10th) free parent presentation on an important topic of "Suicide Prevention." CUSD will have the Teen Lifeline Director and a panel of students and parents who will share their experiences on topics of Anxiety, Depression, Self-Harm and/or Suicidal Thoughts. Join us at Hamilton High School (Choir Room) from 6:30-8:00pm.
OUT OF THE DARKNESS CAMPUS WALK - Arizona state university
Losing someone to suicide or struggling with a mental illness can feel very frightening and isolating. The OUT OF THE DARKNESS CAMPUS WALK is a journey of remembrance, hope, support, and a walk that unites a campus and community – a time to acknowledge the ways in which suicide and mental illness have affected our lives and the lives of those we love.
Please join us for this special event on Saturday, April 14, 2018, on the ASU Hayden Lawn in Tempe. Check-in/registration begins at 9:00 am. The walk begins at 10:00 and concludes at 11:30.
Online registration closes at noon on Friday April 13th. Participants can however, register in person between 9:00 and 10:00 on Saturday before the walk begins.

SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP INFO
The Otto and Edna Neely Foundation Scholarship-This scholarship is for seniors who want to obtain a college education or technical training. Each scholarship is in the amount of $3,000 per academic year and is for four consecutive years or until the student graduates. CHS will nominate one senior for this scholarship. See Ms. Jaramillo in the College and Career Center for applicant qualifications and application information. Applications, along with letters of recommendation and financial information are due to Ms. Jaramillo by April 16, 2018.

Please turn in this form to Ms. Jaramillo in the College and Career Center on or before April 14th.
SENIOR CAP AND GOWN
Parent/Guardians & Seniors – if you have not yet purchased your cap and gown for graduation, you will have one last chance to do so by April 13, 2018. Jostens will be onsite at Chandler High School on April 6, 2018 to deliver the graduation announcements and take orders, or you can place your order by calling 1-800-JOSTENS or going to www.jostens.com.
