Science CAASPP Testing and Make Ups

The students have worked hard these past two weeks on Language Arts and Math testing. Students have really been taking their time, which we haven’t seen as a whole in the past, so we are very pleased and proud of their efforts. Because of this, some students need more time this week to continue. We are back on a regular schedule this week, so we will pull students as needed to finish testing and will be trying to avoid pulling during Math and Language Arts classes.

Unfortunately, testing continues for the 8th graders this week. They have Science testing. This will be take place on Wednesday, May 15, during third period, and Thursday, May 16, during 4th period. For the most part, students will return to their same testing room and teacher during these testing times. Students do get a State provided reference sheet with formulas and Periodic Table for this test:

Here are sample questions with answers:

Students can also go to the following link:, click on the green “Student Interface” button and complete a practice science test.

Staff Appreciation

Thank you to all parents who donated food, drinks, and other items for staff appreciation last week. The staff was well-fed and felt very loved. An extra thanks to Lupe Robles, Claudia Aguilar, and Olivia Pereznegron, for coordinating and setting up the lunches and treats each day.
Big picture

Volunteer Breakfast

We look forward to recognizing all of our volunteers’ efforts and dedication this year at our Volunteer Breakfast from 8:30-9:30 am on Thursday, May 30, in the library. We have some special awards for some of our top volunteers this year.

Last Week of School

A reminder that the whole last week of school is Super Minimum Dismissal at 12:06 pm.

Cookies Brand

Last week I learned that I needed to do some staff education on the Cookies clothing brand, which made me realize I probably need to do the same for families. We do not allow students to wear Cookies clothing because this brand promotes and sells Marijuana.

Safe and Smart Choices at Drop Off/Pick Up

A reminder again to make good choices when you drop off your student. Please do not drop your student off on the opposite side of the street because students are walking right in front of cars often without looking and almost getting hit. Please encourage your student to use the crosswalks if you must drop off on the other side of the street. Also, be mindful of using neighbors’ driveways to turn around, and make sure you are not blocking their driveways.

Summer Music

We are offering some free summer music lessons again this summer for our students. Instead of Saturdays though, Mrs. Federico-Youngs would like to try something different. Please see the attached schedule. If you have any questions, please reach out to her directly.

Support Kennedy!

Thank you in advance for your generosity in helping the Kennedy PTO raise up to $30K in support of our students and community! This will help fund next school year’s programs, including: The Kennedy Family Center, The Art Program, The Maker Space, and a new project based learning program called Project Lead The Way. Donate Now or put a check in the PTO box in the school office. No contribution is too small!

8th Grade Graduation Festivities

8th grade graduation events are almost here. Your kids will participate in a day trip to Great America, the graduation dance, field day events and the graduation ceremony, including gowns for all kids. These wonderful events take money to produce and we are asking for donations of $75 per child to cover the costs. Without your donation we won’t be able to make all of these events happen. Please make a contribution today so we can make your child’s graduation from Kennedy a memorable one!

  • Make a $75 contribution by credit card or PayPal account using this link: Please include you child’s name in the comments.

Pictures From This Week

Color Run!

Our first annual Color Run was very successful on Friday afternoon. The timing was perfect, as this was a great way to end a stressful two weeks of State testing. Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered on Friday to make this event possible. An extra special thanks to the parents who organized this event: Cheri Kronthal, Angie Tinson, Lisa Lyssand, Sarah Dinkel, and Meredyth Hite. Thank you to Kennedy parent, Ronnie Guinto, for letting us use his photo booth. We will include more pictures next week from professional photographer (and Kennedy parent), Mariana Eymann, that will be better than my amateur pictures below, and the final fundraising total.
