The Leeward Theatre
What We Can Do For You, Your Students, and Your Curriculum.
Did You Know???
In her article on marginality and mattering, Nancy K. Schlossberg states: "Involvement creates connections between students, faculty, and staff that allow individuals, to believe in their personal worth. This involvement also creates an awareness of our mutual relatedness and the fact that the condition of community is not only desirable but essential to human survival."
Our Greatest Marketing Tool is YOU!!
The faculty, staff, and students at Leeward are our core community, and we want to do what we can to help you – whether it’s reinforcing concepts that you’re teaching in class, or simply giving you a discount to see one of our Leeward Presents shows.
SO... HOW CAN THE THEATRE HELP YOU?
We’re happy to assist you in creating lessons that match your curriculum to the performances we’re offering onstage. Think it can’t be done? That your class is the exception to the rule? Try us! We dare you. We double dog dare you (see - I told you we were serious). The theatre is a kind of living laboratory where many of the concepts and ideas that you’re presenting in class have a practical application. We’re more than willing to sit down with you and help you figure out how you can include the theatre in your curriculum.
WHEN YOU INCLUDE ONE OF OUR LEEWARD PRESENTS PRODUCTIONS AS A REQUIREMENT IN YOUR SYLLABUS, WE'LL GIVE YOU A FREE TICKET TO THE SHOW!

Think you have a research paper or presentation that would be a perfect tie-in to one of our Leeward Presents production? Tell us about it! We would love to be able to offer our patrons, subscribers, and audiences a chance to delve deeper into what they are about to see on stage. We’re more than happy to work with you to develop a preshow chat or lecture or create a display for our lobby. This would also be a great community involvement checkmark for a performance or tenure review.
Curious to see what goes on in getting a show on its feet? Bring your class by for a backstage tour! We’ll be happy to schedule a time to show you all that goes on behind the scenes. See physics, geometry, biology, engineering, and technology in action! If you’re reading a play as part of your curriculum, what better way to show your students the practical side of a dramatic production?
Artist Interviews & Professional Workshops:
Throughout the year we try to provide as many free workshops and master classes as we can. This semester alone we have:
Local theatre company PlayBuilders offering THREE workshops/masterclasses on community centered theatre, and how to create devised works using personal or collected history. Come to one or all three! They'll be held in the Lab Theatre on: 8/24 10am-2pm, 10/19 10am-2pm, & 11/20 3pm-5pm. Come alone or bring one of your classes!
Internationally acclaimed Spoken Word Artist Marc Bamuthi Joseph is offering a workshop on how to energize students speaking and writing using spoken word/slam poetry techniques. His workshop will be on 11/22 time & place TBD (it depends on how many people or classes sign up).
ALL OF THESE WORKSHOPS AND MASTERCLASSES ARE OFFERED AT NO CHARGE TO YOU OR YOUR STUDENTS.
If you're interested in learning more, or signing up one (or more) of your classes to attend a workshop or masterclass, email: firstname.lastname@example.org
HOW CAN YOU HELP THE THEATRE?
Tell A Friend (better yet, buy them a ticket!):
One of the best ways to support the theatre is to come out and buy a ticket! We offer a wide range of professional, community, and student centered events. Come out for a night at the Theatre! Help us preserve the unique cultural and community heritage that has been a part of The Leeward Theatre for 40 years! It’s through your generosity and patronage that we are able to keep our doors open and our tickets affordable.
Advertise in Our Programs:
Do you have a side business? Know someone who does? We’re always looking for ways to connect with people who might be interested in advertising with us. Last year alone the Theatre had over 135,000 people in attendance. Let us help you to reach your customers!
Have you got any corporate contacts? People in high places who are looking for a way to give back to the community in a real and tangible way (while still getting their name and brand out there)? Then point them our way! We are always on the look out for individual or corporate sponsorships. Check out some of the benefits of Sponsorship on our web page:
Do you have something that you think would make a perfect silent auction or door prize? Do you have contacts with small businesses or corporations who are looking to get their name out to the public through merchandise or service donations? Talk to us! Your stuff could help bring in some money for the Theatre and/or scholarships for Leeward students in the Performing Arts.
