Many Hands, One Mason!!
September 29, 2019
Dear Mason Families,
We had a very successful Evacuation Drill this week. Thank you so much to our local public safety department and our Mason families who volunteered their time to help us get there safely. While we hope we never have to evacuate the building, it is a great feeling knowing that we are prepared if the need arises. Thanks for your dedication to safety.
Thanks for your patience,
Roy Bishop, Jr.
Principal
Dinner Conversation Starters:
How did the evacuation drill go this week?
What book should we read together this week?
What Math concepts are you and teacher talking about in class?
Name a time this week you could have been nicer to one of your classmates?
Reading Homework: As a family, it is so important that we are reading every night! If you need books to read to your learner or they need a new book to read at home to read to themselves, we have a free library that you can grab a book from by the main entrance!
STOMP OUT BULLYING: Mason is proud to support the Stomp Out Bullying effort. We invite you and your student to join us in wearing pink every Wednesday to show our support. Lets put an end to bullying!!
LIM Focus for the month of October: Begin with the End in Mind
Begin With the End in Mind I plan ahead and set goals. I do things that have meaning and make a difference. I am an important part of my school. I look for ways to be a good citizen.

Classroom Behavior- Classroom Behavior- We are focusing on following directions and doing our best in the classroom. Our motto is to do your best and forget the rest!! Please discuss with your child at home what it truly means to Be a Leader, Be a Learner and Be Kind in the classroom.
Safe Routes Survey
As part of our Safe Routes to School Grant application, students and parents are completing online surveys. The parent survey will close October 4. We need your input to effectively plan our application. Please contact the main office if you have any questions or would like more information about the survey or the committee.
Thanks for participating!
Conference are coming!!!
Dear Mason Families,
Can you believe parent-teacher conferences are right around the corner!?! This year, conferences will be held on Oct. 9th and Oct. 10th and we are going to an electronic format with our conference sign up process. Families will be able to start signing up for conferences starting Sunday, Sept. 29th at 6 pm. The conference links will remain open until Oct. 6th at 6 pm.
The link, that will be sent out this Sunday, Sept. 29th at 6 pm, will take you to the Sign-Up Genius link for each classroom teacher at Mason. Please click the link for your child's teacher and select a 15-minute slot that works for your family. If you have multiple conference times to sign up for, please don’t schedule them back to back. We would like for you to leave a 15-minute block of time between each child so you can make it to your conferences on time.
Thanks for your time,
Sincerely,
Roy Bishop, Jr.
Principal
From The Office
We appreciate your kindness. However, please do NOT hold the door open for anyone, even Mr. Bishop. We need everyone to ring the buzzer so we know who is entering the building. Thank you for your co-operation in keeping our students safe.
Appointments and Attendance
It can't be helped, we understand appointments happen during the school day. Please remember to call the attendance line for early dismissals, late arrivals or whole day absence. The attendance line is open 24 hours a day. The more notice you give the better. Thank you!
Drop off and pick up
Please continue to let your students enter and leave the building on their own with their classmates. They are doing a great job!

Parents/Visitors at Mason
For the safety of all of our students, all parents and visitors must go directly to the office to sign in and obtain a visitor’s pass. This pass must be worn and visible at all times while in the building. Please remember to sign out when you leave.
DOCTOR NOTE? ATTENDANCE UPDATE
The GPPSS has modified attendance codes for our district to keep consistent records at all schools. What's important for you to know?
Medical appointments now require a doctor's note for an excused absence.
Tardies are now split out in six minutes increments, giving a better picture of our students arriving late.
Attendance is a serious matter. We need to know where your child is when they do not show up for regular school hours. Please use the attendance line 313-432-4401 to report an absence prior to 9:00 a.m.
