You are truly appreciated. It takes us all working together for our students to be successful. We could not do what we do without your support.
Foundations for Success (CGI Florida) Program
Teachers in our school are participating in a research study conducted by Florida State University to better understand how a professional learning program for teachers called Cognitively Guided Instruction impacts mathematics teaching and learning. You have the right to have your child’s information withheld from the study if you do not wish to participate. Please review the parental notification letter here for more information about the study. https://teachingisproblemsolving.org/parental-notification
As you know, good school attendance is a must for every child if they are to receive a quality education. Please make sure your child is in attendance each day at school. As we approach state assessment season in April and May it is imperative for students to be at school and on time. If you have questions or concerns about your child's attendance, please contact the school.
If you would like to recognize an outstanding Navigator Teacher or Staff Member, please complete the recognition form at the bottom of this newsletter and return to Shana Dorsey or send an email to dorseys@santarosa.k12.fl.us.
Thank you for your continued support and partnering with us in your child's education!

Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports (PBIS) Corner
West Navarre Intermediate is proud to be a Positive Behavior Intervention & Support School. The PBIS framework provides schools with an opportunity to teach expected behaviors utilizing positive reinforcement along with more targeted interventions for students who require more intensive supports. Our school population is divided across five different communities and students earn points for their respective communities by displaying the school-wide expectations. The school holds a competition each 9 weeks for communities to determine which one can earn the most points and then earn a reward. Our goal is to maintain a program that fosters school-wide unity, a community service paradigm, and student leaders. Our communities and school wide expectations are: Fidelis (Loyalty), Erubesco (Respect), Officium (Responsibility), Veritas (Truth), and Animus (Courage).
WNIS was recognized as a Model PBIS School for the 2020-2021 School Year.

Navigator Bucks
- Students earn Navigator bucks/points for exhibiting positive expectations.
- Points are collected weekly and used to determine the quarterly winning community.
- Students can redeem their Navigator bucks at the end of each quarter at "Community Concessions".

Teachers can submit Positive Behavior Referrals to Administration. These will be a surprise for students! Teachers will submit and then administration will call the student up and make a positive phone call home praising the student for the character trait(s) he/she exhibited.
