Calling All Hy-Vee Receipts!!!
March Madness is here and we need you to send all of your HyVee receipts to Jackson by March 31, 2020!
Please send Hy-Vee receipts dated April 1, 2019-March 31, 2020 to school!
Hy-Vee will give Jackson $1 for every $200 collected in receipts!
This fundraiser is easy and does not require you to do anything
beyond what you already do by shopping at Hy-Vee.
Qualifying Receipts must be from Cedar Rapids and Marion Hy-Vee locations and can include: Grocery, Catering, Pharmacy, Fuel, Hy-Vee Starbucks and Caribou, Wine & Spirits, Market Grille and more!
Please help Jackson earn money for our school!
Receipts can be sent to school with your child or drop them off at school! The Hy-Vee receipts collection bin is located right outside the main office at the top of the stairs!
Spring Carnival is May 8th
Spring Carnival is May 8th (PLEASE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE FROM SCHOOL CALENDAR) and is rapidly approaching. This event is a popular and fun event for families and a huge fundraiser for our school, but also a very big undertaking. We need lots of volunteers and help with planning.
IF WE DO NOT HAVE ADEQUATE COMMITTEE MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS, WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HOLD THIS EVENT!!
**We are in desperate need of forming our committee for Carnival first and foremost before we can move forward with approving that we will hold this event!!**
Please fill out the following form if you would like to help in any way with this event. Thank you!!
Volunteer Opportunity - Running Club
We are looking for some volunteers to work running club this spring. I am willing to help coordinate sign ups and schedule a run-event, but my family will have VERY limited availability to run with the kids after school due to senior year commitments and soccer games.
What are we looking for?
- Who: 2-3 adults (or responsible teenager) to supervise running club students.
- When: After school from 4-4:40 p.m on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting after spring break thru Mid-May.
All of the above was crafted with our schedule in mind, so if there are other times volunteers would like to propose that is fine.
Please email me at klmalcolm2001@gmail.com if you are interested or have questions.
This is also an awesome opportunity for high schoolers to gain volunteer hours.
Counseling Corner
Research shows that up to 30% of children have been affected by anxiety, and that number is only going up. When presented with these numbers, many people cite the spike in technology use, especially social media. Having 24/7 access to everyone else’s “highlight reel” can cause a whole host of problems.
But, thankfully, there are some ways that technology can be used for good purposes when it comes to anxiety. Today, I want to share with you three free apps that support people with anxiety.
Woebot
Woebot is an app that gives you the opportunity to talk through and process some of your feelings of anxiety and depression. The woebot, a computer coach, uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) practices to walk people through calming exercises, and can give them someone to talk to. Woebot can also check in on you daily to see how you are doing and give you support. This is a great app to recommend for parents to help their children, and actually has been supported by research.
Sanvello
Sanvello is also an app that has roots in CBT and is designed to support people with anxiety. It includes guided meditations, a daily mood tracker, and other activities and videos. It can be set to alert you daily so that you can check in and work through any anxiety you might be feeling. This is a great app to recommend for parents to help their children.
Breathe2Relax
This simple app is perfect for helping people practice deep breathing. It includes visuals that you can follow as you breathe. It also can be customized to the breathing pattern that you would like. The calming voices and imagery make this app perfect to use when working with students who are feeling upset or anxious.
These apps are great to recommend to teachers and parents and to use with older students. By no means should these apps replace therapy, but they can be a great additional tool for students to use. Each of the apps is available for free download on Google Play and in the App Store.
