We Are Hawks!
Week of October 13
Irons Family,
Can you believe that we are a quarter of the way through the school year? Thank you for wearing your mask, washing your hands often, and maintaining social distancing as much as possible. Because of you, we have not had any new COVID cases on campus for the last two weeks. I am excited that the Irons family is slowly returning to return to in-person learning. With all of us working together, following our COVID protocols, we will be able to maintain our in-person learning. Please remind your child to wear a mask every day, and send a backup mask just in case.
We are excited to announce that the Irons JH Wind Ensemble has been selected to perform at the 2021 Texas Music Educators Convention! Irons is one of three junior high bands selected from the state of Texas to perform at this prestigious convention. It will be the first time that the Irons Band has received this prestigious honor! The TMEA convention is attended by thousands of music educators every year and will allow the Wind Ensemble to showcase their fabulous band students to not only music educators from Texas, but also the United States. Congratulations to the Wind Ensemble students, and all present and past Irons Band Members for this outstanding recognition!
The ORHS and Irons Band have launched a Pilot Program to place American flags in your yard for the patriotic holidays near the neighborhoods off 242. Both the ORHS & IJH band programs benefit from sales in the 242 area. Go to www.iwantaflag.com , click on Oak Ridge High School to place an order. Be sure to tell your friends and neighbors. We especially ask for your help if you live in the 242 area!
The Irons athletic programs are having a great start to the school year. After the first four weeks of play, our Lady Hawks Volleyball team has a combined record of 15-1. Great job, ladies! The Irons Cross Country team has had a great team showing in the last two meets with Harris Ledbetter and Geovanna Ramirez and taking individual 1st place medals.
A few quick reminders that report cards will go out mid-week, class leveling will take place as needed, and student picture day will be November 11.
Have a wonderful weekend.

The Academy For Careers In Engineering And Science
Dear parents,
My name is Mike Papadimitriou (Dr. Pap), and I am the Headmaster at the Academy for Careers in Engineering and Science (ACES) located on the Oak Ridge High School Campus. Students in the Oak Ridge, Grand Oaks, College Park and Woodlands feeder zones are eligible to apply for admission to the Academy at Oak Ridge (ACES) and/or the Academy of Science and Technology (AST) at College Park. Despite the name differences, both academies offer just about the same courses, and we have the same program requirements. The manner in which we fulfill these program requirements varies a bit between academies.
Our application deadline is mid-November. Junior High counselors and math/ science teachers will have applications in the near future. Applications are also available on our website. Submissions can be by mail, email, fax or in-person drop off.
For the Academy for Careers in Engineering and Science, we do not require any additional testing other than the PSAT 8/9 that all CISD 8th graders take at their junior high schools. If your child is not able to take this test, we will use prior standardized test data already on file.
We have three 8th Grade Parent Information Zoom Nights scheduled:

School Cash
We are so excited to start the new school year! We have missed being able to engage in person with our students and watch them as learning takes root.
As you know we have made several modifications to how we operate in order mitigate the risk of COVID-19. I want to assure you that the health and safety of your family and our staff is our highest priority.
Please Pay School Fees Online
As part of those modifications, we are asking you to use our online payment system to purchase school items when you can. Cash can play a significant role in virus transmission, and we are working toward following the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations to use contactless payments to mitigate virus spread.
Paying Online is Fast and Easy
Paying school fees online is fast and easy and can be done from any computer or smartphone. Getting setup up is three simple steps:
1. Create Your Profile: Go to www.conroeisd.schoolcashonline.com and click on “Get Started Today”.
2. Confirm Your Email: Check your inbox for the email confirmation and click on the link inside. Sign in with your new login details.
