Weekly Updates from Mrs. Cervantes - May 16, 2021

Good afternoon, Coyote Families, and Happy Sunday to you!

Oh, this rainy weather! As much as I love an occasional rainy day, I am not a fan of a full week of rain on our last week of school with LOTS of things planned. Eeek! But, as we always manage to do, we pivot as needed. :-)

In this newsletter, you'll find important information about Silly Hat Day a a school-wide reward, recognition of our Lighthouse Families for 20-21, Kindness Monday, final yearbook sales, summer reading run, registration information for families needing assistance with backpacks/supplies for 21-22, 5th Grade Celebration updates, and calendar reminders. As always, there are also links to join PTA and purchase spirit wear as well as links to school breakfast and lunch menus.

Have a great week!

School-Wide Istation Reading Goal

Coyotes! This year we set a school-wide goal for our monthly Istation Reading scores. The goal was to have at least 85% Kinder through 5th Grade students, In-Person AND Virtual, make 6 months of growth from October to April. Congratulations! We met our goal, and had 89% of Kinder-5th Graders make 6 months of growth on their Reading Istation scores. To celebrate, we will have a school-wide SILLY HAT DAY on Wednesday, May 19th. Wear your silly and crazy hats to school or your virtual class and celebrate making our school wide goal. We are so proud of all your hard work this year!

Kindness Mondays

We will be continuing to focus on kindness on our campus until the end of the year with KINDNESS MONDAYS. Each Monday, we want encourage each student to wear the Kindness T-shirt or a blue/teal/aqua shirt. Teachers will be sharing out kindness challenges for the students to participate in within weekly newsletters. Our campus will be sharing spotlights of KINDNESS in a variety of ways. Be on the lookout for those special moments created by our amazing teachers supporting this endeavor! #LISDBEKIND

From the Librarian

Hello CRE families! With summer approaching I would like to let you know about all the fun summer activities happening in our area public libraries! Please check out the file attached to learn more about summer activities and reading challenges in our public libraries as well as ours! That’s right! I have challenged all students to complete a Summer Reading Bingo Board (no need to print it out, I passed out a paper copy)! This is full of fun reading activities and if they bring it back to me during the first week of school completed, I will have a prize for them!!!! Please support our summer reading by encouraging your lovelies to read throughout the summer, visit the public libraries and make reading a fun and exciting activity! As I tell my own children, lifelong readers read for fun but a little incentive everyone once in a while is amazing!

5th Grade Celebration - Friday, May 21st

5th grade parents, you have already received an invitation and RSVP link to the celebration, so please refer back to your child's teacher's email if you didn't already respond YES or NO to attending. We have a nice outside event planned to celebrate our 5th graders as they complete elementary school, but we are also closely watching the weather. Please know that we do have a "rainy day" version of the ceremony, but our space will be very limited inside and we will still require separation from the students and social distancing as much as possible between sets of parents. Students and teachers will be set up in the gym, and parents will be set up in the adjoining cafeteria. So far, we do have 124 parent visitors on the RSVP list expected to attend ceremony, which will mean the cafeteria will be full to capacity. Please be aware that we may have to make adjustments this week to the plans and may have to limit the visitors to ONE per student and provide a link on WebEx to stream the ceremony. Obviously this is not ideal, but we are working within our current procedures to make this a memorable event for our students. Thank you so much for your patience and willingness to work with us -- we very much appreciate you!
