Muffins with Mom-Friday, May 9th 7:00 a.m.-8:10 a.m.

This will be the Last Week for Spelling and for Weekly Homework

It is Time for District Assessments

This week we will be taking the End of the Year Language Arts district assessment.

We will be spreading out the assessment over the next three days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday). During the next couple weeks, I will also be administering QRI tests. The QRI test provides data on current reading levels and measures accuracy and comprehension. Final QRI scores will be sent home with report cards at the end of the year.

Next week we will be taking the End of Year Math Assessment. These results will also be sent home with report cards.

Poetry Cafe

On May 19th we will be transforming our classroom into a coffee shop for Poetry Hour! Students will have a chance to go on stage and read some of their favorite poems (they have written) as their audience enjoys refreshments. This is one of my most favorite activities!

Thank You For Sending in Veggies!!!

Thank you so much for being on the ball and sending in all the veggies! Our crock pot was overflowing with healthy deliciousness! We had so much fun making it!

Second Grade is Heading to Deanna Rose! Wednesday, May 14th 8:40-2:00

Thank you so much for the great response for volunteers! I am thrilled that we were able to reschedule it!

This Week...

Language Arts Assessment/QRI testing

Anchor Text-Super Storms (informational text)

This text has amazing photographs and interesting facts! We started it today and the students loved it! We are using this text to practice checking for understanding and using text features. We will also be integrating this text into our writing. I am introducing a new approach to writing poetry using informational text.

Spelling-words with prefixes over/un

Writing-We have been writing some amazing poetry!! We have written Haiku, Limericks, color poems, "fun" poems, and shape poems. They are incredible! I cannot wait for you to read them! They will be putting all their poems together in a book to take home.

Science -Plants and Weather (Super Storms)

We took the post test over Topic 15 today. A majority of the students received 100%. For those students that missed a few, I will reteach tomorrow and retest on Wednesday. I pretested Topic 16 (Telling time and understanding graphs) today and they all did very well. This is our last Envision Topic so we are in great shape for the district's end of the year assessment.
