Garfield Steals Halloween Parade
Kids Really Expressed Themselves
This year the Clear Stream Halloween Parade was taken over by a cool cat. No, it wasn't Mr. Singleton… It was Garfield the Cat! He left Odie at the animal shelter and decided to hang out with his friends from Clear Stream. Garfield put on a couple of pounds, so even though he was inflated he couldn’t get off of the ground. So he just walked the parade route smiling and waving to the crowd of happy children. Clear Stream students and faculty dressed up in costumes that ranged from superheroes to original creations. Students who chose to participate in the Fall Festival in the Library created arts and crafts with Fall themes. This year's theme was “Express Yourself" and boy was the faculty poppin’. Mr. Greiss dressed up as a box of Popcorn while the 4th Grade and ICT teachers dressed as Blow Pops. Our Clear Stream parents lined the parade route to see the festivities and cheer their children on! It was wonderful to see the students outside and enjoying themselves. Finally, the PTA gave out candy to all of the ghouls and goblins so they could gobble it up! Best time ever!
Starbooks
Kindergarten Reader
Starbook Students
Our kindergarten students have been growing their reading abilities as they engage with lessons included in our district's new units of study in reading. Kindergarteners transformed into readers as they completed Unit 1. They learned concepts of print and became quite the emergent storybook tellers, all while working with partners to share both their reading and their thinking. As they read familiar stories over and over again, they loved speaking and acting like their favorite characters. They also loved sharing a sprinkle of their own reactions and thoughts. Both kindergarten classes celebrated their hard work with a culminating book tasting that transported students to the "Starbook's Cafe". Students put their newly acquired reading skills to use as they browsed, selected, and previewed a whole new set of exciting stories to be shared. Big shout out to our Literacy Coach, Lauren Weick, for bringing literacy to life for our children.
American Ed at CSA Nov. 14 & Nov. 17.
American Education Week will be celebrated during the week of November 13-17. Schools across the nation invite parents into the classroom to experience what the day is like for their child. Clear Stream will be inviting parents on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 and Friday, November 17, 2023.
According to the experts, parents need to take an active and assertive role in their children's education on a daily basis for optimal success at school. Ongoing research shows that parental involvement in schools improves student achievement, reduces absenteeism, and restores confidence among parents in their children's education. Parental involvement means reading to your children, checking homework every night, limiting television viewing or screen time on school nights, developing a relationship with your child's teacher, and simply asking children about their school day. Whatever the level of involvement, it is important to be consistent in order to make a difference in your children's lives. Parental response to this event has always been very positive. We will be using a similar format as in previous years.
The teachers will be sending home RSVP permission slips. All permission slips must be returned to your child’s teacher by Monday, November 13, 2023 for entry into the building. Space is limited so only one parent per child will be permitted in the classroom. For security reasons, only parents who have returned this sheet will be allowed to enter the building. All visitors will be required to sign in at the main lobby and will be admitted based on the scheduled time of visits.
LICM is back again with their well anticipated activity called Build It. Students in 2nd grade seemed to really love the program. They got to express their creativity by building different structures of their own designs. The criteria for the project was that it had to be a free-standing item. The instructor, Ms. Courtney Melrose, reviewed different types of building material and the physics of foundations. Students were excited to complete an experiment where they created a platform out of paper cups and a board that could hold their weight. Several designs are displayed below. This was a fun way to integrate STEAM activities with our Primary Grades.
Clear Stream was happy to participate in Digital Citizenship Week under the direction of our new Digital Literacy Coach, Mrs. Teresa Eberle.
Each day, there was a new theme and activities that the students completed both at school and at home to learn more about how to be a good digital citizen!! Mrs. Eberle had our teachers implement an initiative where students have the ability to earn the two of eight digital badges during the week. Information on how they can earn the digital badge for November and future months will be forthcoming. The themes for each day were as follows:
Monday - Digital Balance/ Sports Day
Tuesday - Privacy & Security/ Camo First Responders Day
Wednesday - Digital Relationships & Communication/ Unity Day
Thursday - Digital Footprint/ Wacky Socks Day
Friday - News Media/ Hat Day
As a result of teaching digital literacy, 1,057 students district wide completed the Student Digital Contract and earned the Policy Promise Badge! 257 students earned the Digital Balance Badge by completing the Google Form with their family! Finally 158 students earned the Cybersecurity Badge by completing the Google Form with their family!
Huge shout out to Mrs. Eberle; Ms. Crocco, our Director of 21st Century Learning; and Mrs. Gutierrez, our technology aide, for implementing this so well throughout activity.
